  • Is there a decent MMO without PVP?

I've tried several MMOs over the years. At the moment I'm playing WoW. However, as much as I hate to admit it, the same flaw that ruined most of the others for me is rearing its ugly head again. PVP affects the PVE content way too much. Classes are balanced around PVP. There are rewards useful only in PVE that require PVP to get. Even on a PVE server, other players look down on you if you don't PVP.

Is there anything with decent gameplay that doesn't include a PVP aspect? Or at least something with PVP that doesn't affect PVE in any way?

  • Would I be able to get sterilized?

I am 21 years old, married, and living in the United States. I am not asking if it's legal...I know that it is. I am asking if it's possible to find a doctor willing to do it.

We do not want kids. I personally believe it is selfish and perhaps even immoral to try for children of your own when the planet is over-populated and a good percentage of the existing population has no reliable access to birth control. I am also extremely annoyed by young children, and have always been, and don't see this magically changing in ten or twenty years' time.

(Un)fortunately, I don't have any inheritable disorders that I know of. How hard would it be to find someone to do the procedure at my age. I've tried every other form of BC except the IUD, which I'm also having problems getting, but the side effects of the hormones were just too much for me and non-latex condoms are expensive, hard to find, and just feel weird. This amounts to us basically be forced to be abstinent, and I'm sick of it.

  • Brown sugar substitute for someone allergic to molasses?

I cannot eat molasses due to what I suppose is a rare food intolerance...Even a single cookie or bowl of cereal can leave me nauseous and dizzy. This means I can't use brown sugar and raw sugar in recipes. Often, white sugar can be substituted without too much of an impact on the taste, but certain things (e.g., candied yams) just don't work.

Is there any blend of sugar/spices that might work as an acceptable substitute for taste while preserving the chemistry?

  • COH or LOTR?

I need a new MMORPG. WOW just doesn't do it for me anymore. I can't really afford to pay for more than one at a time, so I was wondering which other game I should try first.

I hear Shadows of Angmar takes a lot less grinding, which would be nice. Plus, I love the books and movies. On the other hand, I hear City of Heroes has a lot of RPers, which is a plus for me, and it's a bit cheaper to try for the first 30 days.

    Anyone play these? Any opinions?

  • Which would look better on a grad school application?

I'm planning to study abroad for a semester next spring, and because this is being funded through a scholarship from my university, I have a very limited amount of foreign institutions I can attend.

I'm majoring in English with minors in chemistry and philosophy (looking to go to grad school in history and philosophy of science or English literature), so I should be able to fill requirements no matter what I end up concentrating on while I'm abroad.

Australia and South Africa are among my destination options, and the schools I looked at there seem to have a focus in post-colonial literature... I have to think that such coursework will be beneficial.

  • Can you recommend a notebook brand?

In the past, I've gone with cheaper models (Dell and HP). I had a bad experience with HP and an all-out nightmare with Dell, so I don't think I'll be going back. At this point I'm willing to pay a little more for something where a major component won't die every six months.

I honestly don't need much out of it other than internet and word processing, so the video card and CPU aren't ultra-important. I have a rather long walk to class, so my main concern is finding something not too heavy that isn't going to break if it gets jostled around a bit. I was thinking about switching to Mac, but those seem a bit...fragile. Am I wrong?

    Any recommendations?

  • Good hair color?

I have naturally red hair, and I don't really like it. Everybody expects redheads to be fiery and mysterious. I'm clumsy and cautious, and I read like an open book. I get a lot of comments from people who don't know me that well like, "Aren't redheads supposed to be bold?"

I'd like to dye my hair dark, but I'm worried it wouldn't look right. I have the typical pinkish redhead complexion, and I'm literally physically unable to tan. How dark could I go and still look natural?

  • History and Philosophy of Science?

I'm currently an undergrad majoring in Chemistry and English. The university I'm at, while a tier one school, is very focused on science and technology. The humanities departments are small tend to get the shaft.

What I'm really interested in is History and Philosophy of Science, but unlike most of the other places I applied my school doesn't offer that as a major. The philosophy department focuses almost entirely on logic, and the history deaprtment is mostly geared toward poli-sci. The English department, on the other hand, has quite a few faculty who have done work in science and literature. Because an English major would allow me to do the most coursework in science and culture, that's what I chose.

I've seen a few places that offer graduate studies in History and Philosophy of science. Could I still enter that field with my English/Science background, or would I be restricted to just English or Chemistry?

  • What career would combine these two majors?

I'm working toward a bachelor's degree in chemistry and English, and I was wondering if there was any way I could combine the two majors in a way I'd actually enjoy.

Truth be told, I'd love to just get a Ph.D. in English literature, but that seems to be the least practical thing I could possibly do...I need to get a job eventually, after all.

I don't think I'd make a good journalist, and technical writing bores me. Some areas of anthropology would be relevant to my coursework so far, but, again, I doubt the chances of getting a job in that field are very good.

Is there another field that combines my majors that is actually practical to get into? I've already been to my college career center, who basically just gave me the same info as above.

  • What religion would you categorize me under?

Since I've converted to my current faith, I've considered myself a Christian. However, I've had a few Christians say my beliefs are more pantheistic or Christo-pagan. What's your opinion? I'll put the basic gist of my beliefs here. Sorry if it's long.

First of all, I do believe in Jesus Christ as messiah. However, I don't believe in the trinity as most Christians describe it. I don't find it to be supported by scripture. I believe there is just God, who IS everything, all matter in the universe, the laws of physics, and the laws of morality that go with them.

  • Name of old Christian children's program?

It would have aired during the late eighties, possibly early nineties, and it was animated in a style that sort of resembled anime. It was about these two kids, a boy and a girl, who lived in a house that could travel through time. The two of them, along with this old man (their grandpa, or something) and a robot, would visit all these Bible stories. Yes, it was a very weird concept, but it was pretty good for a Christian kid's show.

My friends and I all seem to vaguely remember it, but none of us has any idea what it was called. All the web searches I tried have turned up nothing. Does any one else remember it well enough to know the name of the series?

  • Would I benefit from studying abroad?

I'm an American undergraduate English major who's thinking about going for a Ph.D. Because of the way my university's exchange program is set up, I could go abroad for a semester or two for little additional cost. The thing is, I'd probably have to give up my additional major in chemistry to do so. My school has great science programs, but it is lacking in the humanities department.

Would going to the U.K., or possibly Ireland, to study literature really make me more competitive, or would I be better off with the additional major?

  • For women who get migraines...?

I get a lot of migraines, and one of the things that triggers them is PMS. Has anyone with migraines tried a brand of birth control that makes your period less frequent? Did it also help with those monthly headaches?

  • Advice in talking with my sister?

I recetly found out that my younger sister (in her late teens) came out as bi a few months ago, at least to her friends. I am completely fine with it, and really not all that surprised. It's just that I don't know if our parents know (she still lives at home) or if she even wanted me to know. How do I broach the subject with her?

  • Do British high school students have to take a course in American literature?

I just wondered, because my high school required British literature.

  • Is this normal?

I can't forget about this guy. I haven't spoken to him in weeks, and although he was at one point my closest firend, he was honestly never a huge chunk of my life. I never once let myself falsely believe that the feeling was mutual. Still, I can't get him out of my head. It's very distracting, not to mention a bit painful.

Could it be the fact that I can't talk about it with anyone? All my friends were his friends, and, because it's summer, I can't just go out and meet new people.

I never had crushes in high school, so i don't know how to deal with this. Is it normal, or should I seek some kind of help?

  • Does anyone remember the computer game "Number Munchers"?

It originally came on floppy disks (the actually floppy kind), and they made us play it when I was in grade school. It was basically Pac Man with numbers. You controlled a green, frog-like creature that went around gobbling up problems with a certain solution; e.g., you would be given "3," then you'd have to eat 5-2, 1+2, etc. All the while, you had to avoid a purple villain. When you won, there would be a scene where the number muncher rewarded himself (by carving his portrait on Mount Rushmore, for example) often at the villain's expense.

My question is: Does anyone remember the villain's name? When I remembered this game the other day, it kind of bugged me that I couldn't remember something that consumed so many hours of my childhood.

  • What is the correlation between a scientific mind and lack of spelling ability?

My professors and classmates are very bright individuals, yet I often find myself wanting to attack them with a dictionary and a red pen. "Endoplasmic reticulum" is always spelled correctly, but simple non-technical terms get butchered on a regular basis. Do most scientists just have no reason to give a damn about spelling, or is the language-related part of the brain somehow sacrificed for the sake of logic?

Or the Easter mongoose for that matter? Rabbits don't lay eggs, so why should one deliver them?
