Is there a decent MMO without PVP?
I've tried several MMOs over the years. At the moment I'm playing WoW. However, as much as I hate to admit it, the same flaw that ruined most of the others for me is rearing its ugly head again. PVP affects the PVE content way too much. Classes are balanced around PVP. There are rewards useful only in PVE that require PVP to get. Even on a PVE server, other players look down on you if you don't PVP.
Is there anything with decent gameplay that doesn't include a PVP aspect? Or at least something with PVP that doesn't affect PVE in any way?
In response to Ashley: I do not play WoW for the gear. I play WoW to see the content. I get gear so I can eventually down the big bad guy, not the other way around. The reason I do it in an MMO setting instead of a single-player game is because I find it more fun and challenging to coordinate with 25 friends.
I have no problem with those who choose to play the game for other reasons, including competition with other players. I do have a problem with game designers who force people to take part in ALL aspects of gameplay to be rewarded in their chosen niche, which has happened with WoW time and time again. Classes are constanly unbalanced in PVE to maintain some semblance of competitiveness in PVP. Even some fun cosmetic rewards, such as the violet protodrake, which can only be used in PVE mind you, are off-limits to PVEers now.
So yes, even if WoW does not strictly require PVP, PVE mechanics and rewards are designed around it. I have played games MUCH better at separating the two.

i completly disagree with you. i do virtually ZERO pvp in WoW, all my gear was obtained through quests and instances. and honestly, no one gives a crap about pvp on my server, and we ARE a pvp server. the most pvp anyone cares about is Wintergrasp, and thats cause wintergrasp is a hell of a lot of fun even if you HATE pvp
i also know people who made it all the way to 80 without ever setting foot in a bg or anything resembleing a pvp setting besides the odd random attack from a member of the opposing faction.
i have absolutly no issues with people caring about whether i pvp or not on my server. i didnt have issues with it on the one i transfered from either.
and its an MMO. MASS MULTIPLAYER ONLINE! it BEGS for pvp, any online game would almost be insane not to have it.
im sorry if this isnt the answer you wanted, but your making a much bigger deal of this than it is. there is a **** ton of ways to get amazing gear in WoW that dont involve PVP. i have at least one char on every type of server, and honestly, pvp servers are the best, even if you hate pvp. no one has EVER given me crap for hating pvp

One company became engaged on a ordinary guy or woman shooter mmog challenge whether it failed final time I heard of it. i think of especially because of fact something that scale demands too a lot bandwidth and pc capability. maximum first guy or woman shooter video games do no longer help anymore than sixty 4 gamers on on server, it gets very laggy while there is extra advantageous than 40 gamers. it would take a super variety of money to maintain a server that would desire to healthful hundreds of gamers that opt to do first guy or woman shooter mode. it particularly is advisable to look at Age of Conan because of fact i've got heard lvl60s have danger against lvl80s consistent with skill.
