Would I be able to get sterilized?

I am 21 years old, married, and living in the United States. I am not asking if it's legal...I know that it is. I am asking if it's possible to find a doctor willing to do it.

We do not want kids. I personally believe it is selfish and perhaps even immoral to try for children of your own when the planet is over-populated and a good percentage of the existing population has no reliable access to birth control. I am also extremely annoyed by young children, and have always been, and don't see this magically changing in ten or twenty years' time.

(Un)fortunately, I don't have any inheritable disorders that I know of. How hard would it be to find someone to do the procedure at my age. I've tried every other form of BC except the IUD, which I'm also having problems getting, but the side effects of the hormones were just too much for me and non-latex condoms are expensive, hard to find, and just feel weird. This amounts to us basically be forced to be abstinent, and I'm sick of it.

Update:

My husband refuses to get a vasectomy. He's worried about the consequences should I happen to die at a young age. So yeah, it's up to me.

Have you thought about your husband/partner getting a vasectomy. I had one with no serious side effects. The only difference is slightly less semen.

I'm the exact same way. Sorry I can't answer for sure, but I'll be interested to see the answers to this question...
