Parrot got emotion and hurt herself. Why and how to help?
My friend keeps a pair of parrots in the same cage. The male appears to be a bit aggressive and beaked the female very often. She gets increasingly unhappy and hurt herself by picking out her feathers. My friend has tried to separate them in different cages but she didn't get happier and kept picking her own feathers. Is she subject to some emotional sickness and what can be done?

What species parrot are they?
Do they appear to be nesting? In some species during mating & nesting periods, some parrots can come accross a little aggressive. This needs to be watched closely & the pair seperated if the female looks to worn out or stressed.
Are you sure she is picking her own feathers & the male isn't? A nesting pair, the males can sometime feather pick the female.
If they're not nesting are they bonded or are they new? If new they just may not be compatible. Either way you can seperate them without complications. All you have to do is put them into seperate cages & push the cages together. This way they get each others company without the stress of seperation & they can not harm one another.

I dont know whether Parrots have psychological problems (I dont see why not, they do have minds of their own).
I'd strongly recommend taking the bird to a vet asap - the vet will be able to tell why the parrots pulling her feathers out (ie if its a physical problem, like a skin complaint or if its a psychological problem) - either way they'll have the parrots best interests at heart & should be able to find a way to help her get better.

I have a Conure and I have read about this. First you should make sure that she does not have any parasites or skin rashes. If not, then you should def take her to the vet. This behavior becomes like an OCD. It will continue to get worse to the point that she will have bald patches. It is emotional. Like stress! Dogs do this to but they obsess with licking themselves raw. I would take her to the vet to try to get control because it said in the book that after a while you will never be able to get her to stop

if there are no parasites, it's usually a sign of stress. it would be nice if they could be in separate cages with the cages side by side so they could still see and interact with each other. they also make a toy called a bird pacifier, i think. it has fibers that the birds can pick at instead of their feathers.

Hare Krishna, cage is a symbol of material body parrot is a symbol of soul analogy is so given for two reason.. "Why do some parrots regard cage as parrots?" i did not get this part of question.. this circle of " leaving one cage and being caught in another cage" represents the circle of life and death.. after we die we take birth again.. in a new body... thus parrot is caught in a new cage... this cycle will end when we do not wish for this body (birth in this planet) again and act accordingly in this birth (chant the Holy Name and worship the Supreme Lord ) it is said that when one remember God take the time of death he goes to HIs Abode and does not have to take birth again ( escape from this cage )
