  • A friend is repaying a ccj but debt collection company say more more is owed than the ccj can they do this?

The CCJ states one amount is owed, which is being repaid but the debt recovery company are trying to claim double what is on the CCJ - which amount legally has to be repaid?

Any links to statutes of UK law governing this would be greatly appreciated.

  • How can I replace the water shut off valve under kitchen sink without turning water off?

When my washing machine was fitted the tap on the water shut off valve was broken off accidentally and now the water can't be turned off.

I need to be able to remove the washing machine but an both unable to use the water shut off valve under sink or find the main water inlet into the property (it runs right through the property and the pipes cant be followed).

    Unfortunately I really can't afford a plumber.

  • Can I please get some advise re: laws relating to recovery of debts for a deceased person & the DPA & FOI act?

Im looking for laws relating to the Data Protection Act and Freedom of Information Acts and regarding the recoverability of a 3rd party's debt.

A relative of mine lost their partner and has been effectively forced to repay a debt that may not have been in their name.

The bank are refusing to give any information regarding the loan to the person they are trying to recover it from - not even to confirm if it (the debt) is in their name or joint names any details of their own account and are insistant that the person they are trying to recover from is responsible for the debt.

Can someone (preferably with UK legal know how) please help with the necessary laws?

  • Diabetic with high blood sugar level yet healthy?

Hi, my boyfriends been diabetic for years and after pretty much ignoring it he decided to start taking it seriously & looking after himself.

He's measuring blood sugar constantly, eating healthily & had metformin increased but nothing seems to help.

Last month he had all of the usual diabetes tests to make sure he's ok & the results all suggest that other than high blood sugar level he's a picture of health.

Its really starting to get us both down as he's under pressure to decrease the sugar level but nothing we do helps.

Has anyone encountered this before & if so could you give some advice?

    Thanks

  • Who do I contact about my car battery failing whilst under warranty?

I bought a new battery in May 2009 & was given (I cant remember if it was 1 or 3 year warranty) - its died today & the guy from the recovery company said everything else electrical (eg alternator, starter etc) are find but the battery itself barely has any charge (full charge is only 50% capacity). Im waiting for a new battery & have been told as the old one is under warranty it should be replaced/refunded but the the shop I bought it from is over 300 miles away.

    Any ideas?

  • How can I make my cat put on weight?

I've got an 18yr old cat who is painfully thin.

She was the runt of the litter so has always been small but Im really worried about her weight.

We took her to vets & they've checked her out & said other than slight heart murmur & being underweight (she only weighs 2kg) she's perfectly ok.

We (my family) thought she'd put some weight on but I've just been fussing her & noticed she's got loose excess skin cos she so thin.

Can anyone recommend some form of "build up" or weight gain products we can give her?

  • What action can my employer take if I provide less notice of resignation than is in my contract?

I desperately need to escape my current job but have been told I'm our performance related bonuses are due at the end of October.

If I hand in resignation before then I don't get any bonus, and as I know my performance has been excellent I expect a reasonable bonus, which I have worked extremely hard for and really need.

However, my notice period is 1 month, meaning that if I wait until I've got my bonus in my hand I wont be able to escape until the end of November.

Can anyone help and advise what would happen if I give my bosses less than the full months notice?

  • Which tyres for a Renault Laguna?

I recently got a Renault Laguna & the previous owner told me he'd upgraded the wheels - the tyres I have on are 205/55 R16 - which are approx £50 for the budget tryes but according to numerous tyre seach websites I've checked for prices my car should have 185/65 R14 which are approx £35 for budget tyres.

Can anyone advise which tyres are best and what the difference is?

Also I can't seem to find what the tyre pressure should be becuase the sites I found either show by model (with the 185/55 R14's on) or by tyre (without taking into account car model).

I'd be very grateful of any genuine help/advice offered

  • Where can I find the dipstick and oil filler cap in a 1996 Renault Laguna?

I've just got a Laguna & as a responsible car owner want to make sure all fluid levels right but the only things I cant find under bonnet is the dipstick & where to top the oil up.

The car's the 2l RT version with Manual Transmission.

Please don't patronise me & suggest that Im just some stupid dumb woman who doesn't know 1 end of a car from another because I do & have been working on & under my own cars on & off for over 10yrs so I know what to look for and usually where to find it but cant on this occasion.

  • I recently got a parking ticket & need some advice about if its correct?

I got a parking ticket for "code 01 - parked in a restricted street during prescribed time" - between 19:39 & 19:45 one night last week - the street name is technically wrong - the street shows as THE (street-name) whereas on the signs on the street just show (street-name) - not the (street-name) & that the ticket is £70 or £35 if Im a good girl & pay within 14 days.

I've queried this & had a response from the local council showing a photo of the car timed at 19:47, again stating that the street is THE (street-name) & not just (street-name) and that the fine is £75 (or 35 if Im a good girl & pay within 14 days).

Can anyone please advise if/how I can appeal against this?

If so, I'd greatly appreciate legal terminology (laws etc) that may have been used wrong so I can quote them.

I really cant afford to pay either amount

  • I want to fit my own shower but am not sure how?

I think I know how to fit a shower - I know its not exactly rocket science but Im a little confused about the type of shower to get & what's needed to power it.

I have a gravity-fed water system but the cold tank is only about 1/2metre above where the shower will be - I presume this means I'll need a pump.

Without wanting to sound stupid - what powers the pump if I get one? Does it need connecting to the electricity? If so how?

I'm pretty good at DIY so doing it shouldn't be a problem, however I'd really appreciate advice on costs if I need to get a plumber to do it.

  • Can anyone help me with a few recipe ideas?

I haven't got much food in & until the end of the month cant really buy much in but I need some useful recipe ideas.

I've got a lot of bacon in, plenty of pasta/rice/instant mash & onions & other than the odd bit of fish (I don't know what sort) that's pretty much it.

I need to make about 3 meals from these & the only inspiration I can find is bacon butties, risotto, carbonara & fish pie but these aren't very filling for my partner after a day at work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • What kind of shower is best in these circumstances?...?

I want to get a shower fitted but am confused about the different types & have been given loads of different advice about pumps & electric consumption..

I've got an immersion heater with cold water tank above it, which is next to my bath (the cold water tank is about 4ft off the ground & the immersion heater is on the ground & about 3ft tall).

I also need to know roughly how much it's cost - I don't want to spend a lot as my home's rented & I also need to make as few structural changes as possible.
