why do people like pirates of the caribean soo much?

They're fun, don't take themselves too seriously, but are pretty well done anyway. And I'm a big fan of the sword fighting scenes. I had to warm up to Depp. I'm a big fan of his in Benny and Joon because I just love Chaplin and Keaton. In Pirates it was a bit of a shock and pretty hard to get used to. But I like him in those movies now.

But that's just a few reasons. I'm about sick of them now because they are all my little brother will watch. But once he moves on to his next obsession, I think I'll enjoy them every once in awhile again.

What's the point of asking if you already think it is terrible. What ever people say you will probably disagree anyway.

It really doesn't matter. It is a matter of taste and opinion. You might like a movie which I think is terrible and you won't be able to comprehend why I could think that way about that movie.

I like POTC 3 a lot because it was VERY good acting. Johny Depp and Jeffrey Rush just made the movie their own. Good old swashbuckling with some surreal elements (Jack Sparrow in Davy Jones locker sequence) and good scripting (all issues resolved - although NOT all perfect happy ending - but resolved) made it a VERY good movie.

So you didn't like it - fine. Each one to their own opinion.

In the early days of Hollywood, pirate movies were one of the most popular themes for movies. The swashbucklers gave a sense of adventure to movies shortly after sound was introduced in 1929. Then for a long period of time, pirate movies were not made because there is only so much that could be done in the plot. With the introduction of digital effects, the imagination is the limit to what can be done. So Disney wanted to bring back this theme for a couple reasons. Disney was looking for a way to tap into the action/adventure market, create a new franchise of blockbusters and to up attendance to their theme parks. So they decided to take one of their most popular attractions that has been a mainstay in their parks for years and turn it into a movie. The end result was quite remarkable. No only did they achieve their goal, but it went beyond their expectations. The films inspired Disney to renovate their ride and add the Jack Sparrow character to its cast. It is a great example of complete cross-marketing and integration. Whether you like the movie are not, it has been a great success for the Disney Company.

The sequels was a waste of film, the first one was just fine, but the rest was to make more money. Also, the only reason I liked it was this was the very first movie I ever found Johnny Depp at all attractive.

There's nothing good about the movie at all, but a lot of women and girls love johnny depp and they act like they love the movie just because it has him in it. I know a bunch of people like that, and its weird! Because I dont find anything attractive about a smelly drunk pirate wearing lots of eyeliner. JMHO

i won't say i liked this one very much, loved curse of the black pearl though.

well, personally, i like this movie because of the great effects and acting. they made the story come alive, but the complicated plot made it incomprehensible
