Puppy question?
I have noticed whenever my 6 month old puppy has to poop he goes around in circles about 10 seconds before he actually poops. Why does he do this. It is sort of funny.

They have to find the right spot and right position. Not just any spot is good enough to poop on, ya know!

My 2 yr old Golden Retriever does this. First he likes to run really fast in big circles and then he'll start sniffing around until he finds the perfect spot. Then he goes in circles -while- he's pooping. (too much information, i know.) It is funny to watch though.

Lots of dogs do this. It is just to find the spot the want to go. It has to do with smells and all that, they just are rather picky about where they poopy. Yeah, it is sort of funny. But it is totally normal.

Is good for you cos you can toilet train your dog. Once you see your pup goes around in circles, quickly take he or she to the place where you want them to poop. That's how I train them to do their business in the bathroom.
It takes time to train them. Sometimes if they wanted to lie down, they goes in circles too.

He's sniffing around for the right spot and this is good for you because if you saw him doing it in the house, you'd know that he has to go. Then you'd be able to take outside before he tries to go in the house. Hope this helps!

just to get situated i guess. My dog squats like a girl and he's a big golden, and get this: he walks when he poos in the squatting position. Dogs are territorial, so they must have a scent somewhere where they feel their territory is.

Normal behavior, when u go to a public bathroom you look to see if it clean...so does your dog.
