I'm not self righteous and I'm religious. Now if you mean why are a certain religious people more self righteous its because they hide behind a books and say so. But take heart, lots of them aren't REALLY like that. Just the weird one.

There is a difference between being self-righteous and having the righteousness of God.

I try to be righteous by letting God's love and Word show through my actions and words.

All man is prone to be self-righteous...even if you depend on God's direction every day. I feel like I have to be in constant contact with Him if I'm not going to become selfish in my wants and desires.

    Happy Tuesday!

That's a pretty big assumption, is it not? I am religious but certainly don't ever act righteous. Maybe you need to get to know some other religious people than the ones you know who are in your view.

They presume to know God. How could that not make a person feel righteous?

We are declared righteous by God, for Christ's sake. Not because of our own deeds, but because of His on our behalf. Nothing else justifies us in the sight of God. But it is He who justifies, no one else. And we need not justify ourselves to anyone else. It is determined by God whether we stand or fall.
