How much should I pay a college student to babysit my 2 kids?
My kids are ages 2 and 4 and both potty trained. I will not be asking the sitter to do any housework or errand running. The sitter will be at my home for two days a week for 8 hours each day while I work. My son will be gone for 3 1/2 hours each morning at preschool. The sitter will not be required to take him or pick him up.
I live in Indiana. I want to pay our sitter well but do not want to over pay either.
Thanks for your help!

As a babysitter myself I can say that I don't charge per kid, but per our. Usually it's about $5/hr, or whatever the person I'm babysitting for thinks is fair.
A lot of people are saying $2, but I don't know anyone who will babysit for such a low fee. Ask the person who you're considering how much they usually charge and go from there. They'll give you an honest answer and you will get an idea of about how much most college students charge for babysitting.
The other thing is that the toddler years tend to be harder for the babysitters as well. I've babysat everywhere from 2 year olds to 10 year olds, and the younger children are def. more work. Keep that in mind as well when you're considering how much to pay.
Good luck!

I say a flat $50 for the week and $5 an hour for each hour over the 8 hours a day in case you run late.... that way she wont feel like you are taking advantage of her if somehting comes up and you have to stay at work a little later than usual. The flat $50 a week will make it easy for you to budget and for her to know exactly what to expect.
For the people saying $100 a week..... you can put a child in full time daycare for a little over $100 for a whole week! This is 2 days!

Babysitting rates vary so much! For children under 3 the rates can be as much as a dollar more per hour than what you pay for a child over 3. You can't afford to pay more than 1/4 of your pay check out in babysitting--or what's the point of working??? Here (I'm in rural Colorado) licensed babysitting goes for $3/hr for children 3 & under and $2/hr for over age 3. That works out to $5/hr--you're looking at a minimum of $80/week--don't forget that while you work for 8 hours, you've also got travel time to add to those hours--so count on up to 2 hours extra each day. Honestly, for those ages and the amount of care each child will need, the fair rate would be $200/week.

Are you close to the sitter, as in a friend? If so you should help them out a little. I would give them anywhere between 50 and 75 a day. You have to consider that they are in college, and that they are taking time out of their day from a possible other job where they could be making more than what you have to offer. And watching children can be a really tiring job, you would know bc you have the job every day of your life.

$100 for the week, $30 per day for the 2 year old and $20 per day for the 4 year old.
This college student could easily be making $7-8 per hour anywhere else and you want the sitter happily taking excellent care of your kids.

I think 4 dollars an hour is a fair Price! 2 for each kid!
Hope this helps!!!

try paying the student 6.50 an hour because that is a little above the average rate but college students are paying for food so they could use any money they get.

I am with the girl that wrote above me -
a flat rate of $50.00 a week - seems fair!

the going rate for part time sitting services in Indiana is about 2.50 an hour for one child on a part time basis.....but up to 20 hours for (partial week) is 40.00 for one and 65.00 for two
