My patio tomatos are red. Are they ready?
2 days ago they were green. Yesterday they were orange. Today they are red. Are they ready yet or do you let them sit for awhile once they've turned red?

Remove them from the vine, or they'll begin to rot soon. They don't have to be eaten right away (although they can be), and will ripen on your countertop.

Patio tomatoes will probable stay small. As to turning purple, it takes time, and a lot of light. maximum tomatoes require a minimum of 60 days from seed to adulthood of fruit, and a few take longer; i could say provide them a splash greater time, save them continually moist, and that i think of you have purple tomatoes in yet another couple of weeks!

I'd say it depends on how ripe you like your tomatoes. Take one off of the vine and eat it. I personally don't like tomatoes that are really soft, I prefer them nice and firm. I pull mine off as soon as they turn red and put them in the fridge so they don't ripen even more. It's just a matter of personal preference.

:-) Let them stay on the vine one more day then pick them and set them in the shade at room temp in your house at least for 2 hours then there ready but dont put them in the fridge until you slice them.Believe there is nothing like homegrown tomatoes especially when you grow them right. :-)

Let them sit a few days more and give them a gentle squeeze every now and then. You want them to be firm, but not hard.
