Raw vegans?

What do you eat when you travel?

Say you are on a week-long business trip or a conference and you don't have much time and facilities to prepare your food and you are expected to have lunch and dinner with other people. Do you only eat nuts, salads and fruit the whole week?

What about eating out in general - it can't be easy, surely?

I am only a "plain" vegan and I find it difficult. Stressful, even!

Update:

But what I find even more stressful is the bl00dy meat-eaters who keep coming to the veggie section to insult us with their meaty remarks, and at the same time rant about how we are pushing veggie diet onto them and have no right to do so. Argh!

Update 2:

Phil C,

----------

if you read the question you'd notice it is aimed at vegans, especially raw vegans. I would really like to get some advice on eating away from home. I am not looking for random opinions!

Then, if you read responses # 1, 3 and 4, you would understand what I am talking about in the additional details.

Your posting has no connection with my question and it is insulting to me. You think you are so clever or what. When you saw the question, did you click on it because you are genuinely interested in raw vegan diet?

Judging on your response, I think not. Looks as if you are just one of them - poor "meaters" lost in veggie section shooting insults in all directions.

If vegetarians & vegans really wanted to push their beliefs on others and insult them, don't you think they would do that OUTSIDE the vegan section?

You are asking the wrong question here, go to my favorite forum message board! You will get nice answers and make great friends!!

    http://www.rawfoodsupport.com/

They just had this question on their message board.

    I am 75% raw and started June 1st, 2007. I love it!

What I do when I'm traveling, if you have a dehydrator, there is a lot of things you can prepare yourself with to take that are so tasty!

I bought the best book that helped me with ALL my question on raw, it is "Rainbow live food cuisine"

    1. When did you become a vegan? *3 or 4 weeks ago. 2. Are you a vegan, a 100% raw vegan, or a vegan who tries to eat mostly raw? *vegan 3. How much % raw food would you say you have per day? If applicable, name a few foods you would eat in raw form during a regular day. *not sure. I eat some raw foods, but I'm not sure exactly how much. I got these things at the store called 'Raw Revolution' and they are pretty good. They have 'Chocolate Cashew', 'Cashew and Agave Necter' and alot of other stuff. And I eat salad sometime too. And fruit of course. I LOVE banana smoothies. 4. Do you believe that you could benefit from a 100% raw diet? Or do you think that the 'raw benefits' are just a hype, and cooked foods are O.K.? *I don't think cooked foods are bad, but I'm sure raw foods have some things that cooked foods don't.

PLEASE DO NOT SHOOT THE MESSENGER?

I've been asked to forward an unreserved apology to you, re one of the answers you received.

Quote, "The reply I posted earlier was totally uncalled for, the reason I was on this section was to 'gain' an insight into possible ideas for a vegetarian meal for friends. But blew a stack when 'accused of being racist' for eating meat. I'm ( although from the petulance of my reply) old enough even as a 5 to 7 year old remember the bravery and dignity shown by both Rosa Park and Martin Luther King in the face of such a race-hate mob. There is no excuse for the arrogance and ill-manners directed at you via my reply.

Again my most sincere apologise for any upset and ill will this will have caused.

    Phil C.

Well, I'm not a raw vegan, just a regular vegan... It's great to see you are too! I do know a little about it, though.

Most raw vegans have incredible willpower and have fasted a few times before (either a juice fast or water fast). I expect some of them would take traveling as an opportunity to fast.

Also, when people go raw, they typically go a certain percent raw, and it is usually not 100%. Typically, it's anywhere from 60-80%. Very few people are 100% raw 100% of the time. They may just go less raw than usual on their trip.

    Hope I helped!

Yes that is pretty much the deal. I do travel some in my business. I take a cooler if in the car, most hotel have fridges. I try to find a good smoothie place too.

I think it maybe easier than being a plain vegan, I don;t have to deal with someone accidentally serving me soup made with chicken broth or, hidden cheese etc. The food is so basic it's hard to mess up.

I apologize to you for all of the inane answers that you're receiving. I even googled this for you, hoping that I could help in some way. I am far from a raw vegan, but understand how incredibly limited you are in your choices...and how tough it must be to travel with your diet. Please know that all meat eaters and non-raw-vegans are not completely snide and crass.

Don't let these few abusers get to you . You are doing a good thing. The most important thing when food is concerned is not to worry.Eating out is a hard one though ,you have to collar the waiter and be very forcefull. If everything is ok then return everyday.

I couldn't be a raw vegan. I tried it once and I almost died of cravings, especially since it was my second week of college and we have the greatest cafeteria...organic pasta was calling my name and I gave up.

I would like to meet ONE person that is a raw vegan that hasnt totally lost it, and had something cooked.

I never thought a "regular vegan" would sound so... easy compared to a raw vegan diet.

I really don't know if someone could continue that kind of raw diet without breaking, or stopping, or taking a rest in between.

To me, I think of it as almost anorexia. Because, fruit and vegetables wouldn't really offer so many calories? I don't know, it just confuses me.

I like cooked things too much, and I love my vegan lifestlye too much. I like what I eat now, and I feel healthy for it, and I'm not hungry all the time. How can a raw vegan not be hungry all the time???!?!?

  • 1 decade ago

I can't answer that, as a meat eater, I can only assume that it must be difficult.

I personally had nothing against vegetarians or vegans, but being accused of being 'racist' and all that entails, and reported for just daring to disagree (re: "ashley"), and having to put up with her rantings even on minor differences. It seems to me that you are typical of the stupid sheep like, sorry no insult to sheep intended, mentality of this section that vegetarianism & veganism alters to suit you, the situation or both, all of the while

If you don't like meat eaters quote "BLOODY INSULTING" you then ask your ILK, to remember thier manners and not be so BLOODY INSULTING in the first place.

If you and your ilk can't take the flak then don't dish it out.

Tea, rare lamb chops (fresh today, picked the lamb MYSELF this morning as it was happily romping in the field) mint sauce, fresh garden peas and new potatoes.
