  • Are we nothing but parasites?

Aren't humans a sort of "planet parasites"?

Completely dependent on the planet we live on, yet taking much much more than giving back.

What can we do to become more like "good bacteria" than "bad parasites"?

  • Raw vegans?

What do you eat when you travel?

Say you are on a week-long business trip or a conference and you don't have much time and facilities to prepare your food and you are expected to have lunch and dinner with other people. Do you only eat nuts, salads and fruit the whole week?

What about eating out in general - it can't be easy, surely?

I am only a "plain" vegan and I find it difficult. Stressful, even!

  • Which Clinique products are animal-free?

It is very important to me not to have cows' brain an insects in my lipstick, cows' ligaments and fat and fish in my cream, squid ink in my mascara, and animals' genital excrement (obtained by killing or whipping an animal) in my fragrance...

I contacted Clinique customer services and asked for a list of products/ingredients I should avoid. I got the following reply:

"Thank you for your interest in Clinique. Very few animal derived raw materials are found in Clinique products.

Animal ingredients are used only when their efficacy cannot be duplicated by any other source of ingredients. When an ingredient can be obtained from either animals or plants, we

    use the plant derived material.

Please be assured of our best attention."

How much is "very few" exactly? Was I really given their best attention?

Do you know for sure of any animal-free Clinique products?

    Please help!

  • Are vegans really short?

I think it is the other way around - the ones who eat a lot of meat are generally a little bit taller, because of all the HORMONES they eat with their meat.

I have noticed that my generation (I'll be 28 tomorrow) is on average a couple of centimetres taller than our parents.

This is because meat wasn't full of hormones when our grandparents were young, and they also only ate little of it (about 4kg a year, compared to 60kg today!)

If it was normal that each generation is taller than the previous, this would mean the average height of a person was 1 m (3.2 feet)!!!!! And they were probably 1 inch tall when Jesus was around.

So why are horses, bison, moose, elephants, giraffes, rhinos... not tiny, when they only eat grass, leaves, tree bark and fruit?

Also, have you ever thought why is there so much cancer, heart diseases, strokes, cholesterol problems etc today - but not 200 years ago?

  • Vegan shoes?

Can you recommend any vegan shoes? I am after some quality fake leather shoes. I want to try them on before buying them, so ordering on-line is not an option. Information on men's and athletic shoes also welcome.

    I'm in the UK.

P.S.: I realize that Vegetarian&Vegan is a sub-category of cooking, but there is no vegan clothing & shoes category available.

  • Leaving Y!A?

I have just received a violation notice from Y!A - my answer, in which I (correctly) factored a simple algebraic expression, has been removed.

I cannot think of how this has violated the community guidelines. Any ideas?

Also, has anyone managed to contact Customer Care? In the email Y!A sent me it says

"If you feel this content was removed in error, please contact Customer Care and tell us why."

(with a link to Customer Care)

I have contacted them several times by now and have never received a reply.

I am thinking of leaving Y!A for good.

  • This is a question for vegan parents with young kids?

Are there any particularly difficult problems you encounter? Like school dinners, birthday parties...?

Are there people (at school perhaps) who try to put a piece of cheese in your kid's mouth just for the sake of it?

Are there any vegan schools where you live?

How do you kids feel about being vegan?

    Is your child's doctor supportive?

I do not have any children yet... just thinking head :-)

Thank you for your time and answers!

  • How to put an elefant into a refrigerator?

    Analysis:

    1) Differentiate it and put into the refrig.

Then integrate it in the refrig.

    2) Redefine the measure on the referigerator (or the elephant).

    3) Apply the Banach-Tarsky theorem.

    Number theory:

    1) First factorize, second multiply.

    2) Use induction. You can always squeeze a bit more in.

    Algebra:

    1) Step 1. Show that the parts of it can be put into the refrig.

Step 2. Show that the refrig. is closed under the addition.

    2) Take the appropriate universal refrigerator and get

a surjection from refrigerator to elephant.

    Topology:

    1) Have it swallow the refrig. and turn inside out.

    2) Make a refrig. with the Klein bottle.

    3) The elephant is homeomorphic to a smaller elephant.

    4) The elephant is compact, so it can be put into a finite collection

of refrigerators. That's usually good enough.

    5) The property of being inside the referigerator

is hereditary. So, take the elephant's mother,

cremate it, and show that the ashes fit inside the ...

  • A chick went to the library?

The librarian is working away when a chicken enters the library and walks up to her desk. The chicken clucks, 'Book, book, book, BOOK!'

The librarian sets a pile of four books in front of the chicken. The chicken grabs them and disappears out the front door.

About an hour later, the librarian sees the same chicken come into the library. It sets the four books down on the desk and again squawks, 'Book, book, book, BOOK!'

The librarian wonders what the chicken is doing with these books, but since they seem to be in fine shape, she takes the returns and gives the chicken 4 more books. The chicken zips out the door and down the road.

Another hour passes and the librarian hears a loud 'Book, book, book, BOOK!' She looks up from her work and sees the chicken back yet again! By now, the librarian's curiosity has gotten the better of her. She gives the chicken four more books and it heads for the door. This time, as soon as the chicken is gone, the librarian jumps up and runs to the door.

  • Do you eat foie-gras?

...and if you do, do you know what it is and where it comes from?

Ducks and geese raised for foie gras endure the pain of having a pipe shoved down their throats three times daily so that two pounds of grain can be pumped into their stomachs to produce the diseased “fatty liver” that some diners consider a delicacy. Foie gras production has been deemed cruel and inhumane by experts worldwide, including the European Union’s Scientific Committee on Animal Health and Animal Welfare.

  • Did you know it began today?

Even though more than 120,000 caring people voiced their outrage to Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, the Canadian government has sided with the killers. The hunt of baby seals began today.

While the Canadian government is responsible for allowing the slaughter to resume this year, it's the furriers and their cohorts in the fashion industry who are ultimately profiting the most from the slaughter. It's only by educating both designers and consumers about the true cost of every fur and fur-trimmed item that we can hope to see an end to the killing of seals, minks, foxes, raccoons, and other animals who are murdered for their fur.

NEVER BUY OR WEAR FUR, NOT EVEN THE SMALLEST BIT OF TRIM, and encourage everyone you know to do the same.

    Please.
