Vegan shoes?
Can you recommend any vegan shoes? I am after some quality fake leather shoes. I want to try them on before buying them, so ordering on-line is not an option. Information on men's and athletic shoes also welcome.
I'm in the UK.
P.S.: I realize that Vegetarian&Vegan is a sub-category of cooking, but there is no vegan clothing & shoes category available.
I am in Scotland.
And I am tired of asking for non-leather shoes in shops because the shop assistants are usually very bright and suggest I buy some suede shoes...

Allo, I'm a vegan living in UK, and I refuse to buy leather. At the moment, I'm wearing trainers by New Balance. Not all their shoes are vegan, but some are, and they are ethical too, made in either UK or USA.
sometimes i just go into shops and check all the labels until i find ones made from material. The thing is with this you have to be careful they are not made from silk.
if you type in vegan shoes into google, you will get a large list of online vegan shops. i know you don't want to buy shoes off net, but some have real shops to, many are in Brighton or Devon.
Another thing to try is Green Shoes. You can buy off net or go to their factory. I drew around my feet on a piece of paper. and they sent back some perfectly fitting shoes!!!

Well, there's a vegetarian shoe store in Brighton. I'm not sure how close you are to there. There are also various stores around the UK that stock some of the big online brands. You can also often find nice non-leather shoes in regular shops, but they're often made in China or other sweatshop havens. Just ask the salesperson--they're used to these kinds of questions. For athletic shoes, New Balance makes a lot of non leather trainers, many of which are also made in the UK and the USA. As for buying online, I had a great experience buying a pair of boots from Ethical Wares, and online companies generally allow you to return them for a different size. Since EW is a UK company, it wouldn't be as much of an expense. Also, I believe there are a few shops that carry their products. Check out these sites for more info:
EDIT: Try contacting your local chapter of the Vegetarian or Vegan Society to see if they know of anything in your area. There's also brands to consider like Birkenstocks and Splaff. Otherwise, I think you're stuck buying online or taking a trip down south. Good luck.

I woud recommend the "Vegetarian Shoes" shop in Brighton. They do mail order and are very friendly. Shoes are great quaility if a tad dearer than the high street.
I'm sure they will be vegan as well, certainly no leather.

I tend to get my shoes in the cheap shoe shops such as shoe zone. I look at the labels and see what they are made off though. I think that it is New Balance trainers that do the most veggie friendly trainers.

im not sure if zappos.com serves the uk, but they have a huge selection of vegetarian/vegan shoes.
if you're into skateboarding, geoff rowley is a vegan as well as a pro skater (he skates for vans) and all of his pro shoe lines are vegan. also shoes like converse, vans slip ons, anything thats canvas with vulcanized rubber tends to be vegan friendly from my expierence. now dress shoes might be more difficult to find.
