I just lost my 2 year old lab to a deadly snake bite. What type of dog would make a good companion?

I loved my lab but now that he is gone I would like to have a small house dog with a good temperment and short hair.

A companion I could take everywhere with me.

My lab was too big to hop in the truck just to go get gas.He only got to go when I went camping on the week-ends

Im very sorry about your lab, those dang snakes! Like bambi said, beagles, dachshunds. I have a dachshund and I love her to death and she does go to the gas station with us and peeks her head out of the door and looks and my dad and I when we are getting gas. Its cute and they are so cuddly. Beagles do the same thing, I used to have one and she was so precious. Hope I helped!

Well sorry to about your loss i know how it feels to lose a lab. Well anyway a small house dog, w/ a good temperment and short hair. a companion you can take every ... well definetly not a golden retriever or a dog w/ a height over about 17in there is the bichon frise, a chihuahua but they tend to be a little to yappy (can't think of a better word) or maybe a mini austalian shepherd i have i one and he is very easy top handle you can take them every were and they love to travel. i am sure there are some others but i could probably go on for hours or so hope i helped and good luck!

I have a Prelude (very small sport car) and carry my 70 lb Boxer and 90 lb lab everywhere except work and Church.

So- it makes me wonder why you couldn't take a lab to the store in the cab of a truck? Sounds like you are looking for convenience when it appeals to you ,so maybe you don't need a pet quite yet?

Not trying to be rude- but animals are just like kids only they don't talk back and love you (UNCONDITIONALLY) even if you say NO.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I just lost one of my babies to cancer.

I have a Boston Terrier (I used to have two) he goes EVERY WHERE with me. He loves walks, car rides, and his stroller when that is the only way he is allowed in places. Yep, I’m one of those dorks with a little dog in a stroller.

Bostons are happiest on your lap and with you. You have to be careful that they do not get over heated (all short nose dogs get over heated easily). If you do not want the dog in your bed, and in your face 24/7 then choose a different breed, but if you love that you can’t over love them, then check out a Boston. They are low maintenance with their short coats, and have a very happy disposition. Mine is very good with ‘people puppies’ as well.

Small beagles, dachshunds, chihuahuas are some possibilities. Try looking on petfinder.com for a new dog- there are tons of homeless dogs and puppies who would love to have a person!

I feel really sorry for you, its always hard to loose a dog, but I would suggest getting a boxer, they are medium sized dogs who love people and are great with kids.

Lab, Akita, lap dogs, poodles, dalmations. But the best you can get is a Lab. For smaller dog you can do a pomerainian, toy poodles, puppies, terriers, etc.

That is so sad. My lab got bit by a diamond back but survived. I like those little terrier or beagals.

get a yorkie or chihuahua or pomeranian they are super cute and they can pretty much go anywhere with you..

but beware they have a lot of health problems

    hope this helps
