I'm listed as the Defendant in my divorce papers?
Does it matter that I am listed as the defendant in my divorce papers even tho I LEFT HIM? Will this affect my future? ...Say if I wanted to adopt children or something like that.
We are filing 'no fault' in SC and dividing everything evenly; no children; and no debt.
Thanks Ya'll, I didnt think it mattered much but my friend said it would.

I don't think that being the defendent makes any difference. It will not cause any problems for you later. You are lucky to get a No-Fault divorce. My husband said if I want one I have to get it and 'cause he doesn't want one. They are really expensive. I will stay married to him. This will effect my future !

doesn't matter who left who first. it matters who filed first. the person filing for divorce is the plaintiff and the other party is by default the defendent. it doesn't matter either way, it's an uncontested divorce.

It just means that he initiated the divorce. That's all.
