Should I be worried about my lumpy breast?
I am a white, 25 year old female. I am in relatively good health, except for being overweight with slightly high blood pressure. I go to the gyno every year and every year he tells me I"m in good shape! However, this last year he found some lumps in my right breast. I have no family history at all of breast cancer, so he said we would check them again in about 3 months because he felt like they were just benine breast lumps, that a lot of women had them, and they were probably caused by my excessive caffine intake. He checked them again in 3 months and they had shrunk. The original finding happened last November and he checked them again in February. Since then I have checked my breasts often and have noticed another lump in the same area that is quite noticeable. I figured it was just the same thing, but it is really worrying me! I also felt something on the same breast on the side that I thought might be a lymph node. Should I get a 2nd opinion or trust my dr.?
I have had some pain in this breast, which I know is common and not something to worry excessively about, but no discharge or dimpling. I'm know I'm silly for worrying about this....

I know how you feel. I went to 4 different doctors and had 3 mammograms in 1 year cause the lump in my right breast was worrying me. I was told that I have Fibromyalgia and Fibrocystic lumps. I was told to take Vitamin E to prevent anymore lumps and so far so good. If you drink caffeine, I suggest you stop and also quit eating chocolates if you do. I was told to do that. If you feel that you want another opinion go for it. I was told by all 4 doctors that I didn't have cancer. I do have a family history of breast cancer. I was 29 when I found the lump. I am almost 31 now and the lump is there still but its not hard so I know I am ok. If it feels soft it's nothing to worry about. If it feels hard and it hurts then worry and seek help. Not everyone who has breast cancer leaks out of the nipple. If you see any changes like discoloration seek help. If your breast looks like an orange peel seek help as well. I have done research on this and you should too so it puts your mind at ease. Good luck!

GREETINGS Tara,
I'm Tina, I'm a cancer survivor and I have to tell you, get another opinion and get a mammogram, even a breast ultrasound, cut out caffeine totally too.
First off, it could be multiple cysts, cystic masses, fibrocystic breast disease or something else. But the problem is the fibrocystic breast disease can hide something else, there could be a major lump behind it that is something bad like cancer. You need to be 100% sure and not worry and wait until something changes.
He should never have said they feel like benign lumps, he cannot tell just by feeling them. Yes you have the right to be concerned.
there are lymph nodes in the breasts and also ducts that could be swollen but you need to know where you stand.
Please do get another opinion.
PS if it is just fibrocystic breast disease there is a medical massage called manual lymph drainage for the breasts that helps break up the lumps, it's done by a lymphedema therapist. I can tell you more and find a practioner in your area if you let me know the diagnosis.

You never know, but just in case look into this - 7 - Try Vitamin C therapy. A few years ago a cancer specialist came out with a paper that said the best cancer/infection fighter found to date was Interferon. At the time it was $15,000 a gram. The paper also said that Interferon was a by-product of the natural breakdown of Vitamin C in your body. Shortly after that the FDA tried to make Vitamin C by prescription only. Guess why? The FDA has the RDA for Vitamin C set at 64 mg a day, just enough to ward off scurvy. Linus Pauling, who got a Nobel Prize for his work with Vitamin C and a second Nobel Prize for Organic Chemistry, said that 1000 mg a day should be the minimum and 2000 mg a day if you are sick or smoke. 28 He played tennis almost daily until the day he died at 96. (If you find this useful, copy it and give it to a friend. Somebody got to Yahoo and they delete this as soon as they find it) Personally, I got sick twice a year for 2 weeks at a time, for more than 20 years, with something to this day the doctors have no idea what it was, but for a week in the middle of those 2 weeks I was flat on my back. 29 I started Vitamin C therapy once I gave up on the doctors. I took enough to be asymptomatic for those 2 weeks. Too much and I got diarrhea and too little and I got sick. Within a narrow range, and it followed a bell curve over those 2 weeks, I was not sick. At the height I was taking 40,000 mg a day and 300,000 over the 2 weeks. After 2 years of that I have not been sick since – more than 15 years. Vitamin C acts as a natural diuretic so you need to drink a lot of water and watch your body in total, but my kidneys did not dissolve as the doctors predicted, or get massive kidney stones as other predicted. I did not dissolve my bones as some predicted or completely calcify my joints as others predicted. I had no side effects at all. It might be something to consider.

No, it is never wrong to worry about something that seems unusual concerning your health. I can only tell you what my experience with the same symptoms was.
When I was in my mid 20's, with two small kiddos, I discovered a lump in my breast. I thought it was probably related to my period. However, a week later, it was the size of an egg, and very tender, and had popped out overnight. I immediately made an appointment with my doc, and he sent me for a mammo STAT. This was in the days where they took days to read it, not on-site readings. It was on a Friday, and I swear that was the longest weekend of my life! I spent the entire weekend imagining worst case scenarios and crying on my hubby's shoulder all night about not getting to see my babies graduate, not being there when my daughter got married, and so on and so on. Was a TOTAL WRECK! LOL! Turned out to be fibrocystic breast disease. Flares up during my period, and reacts to hormonal signals. A pain in the butt, er, boob, but nothing serious. More likely, yours is something similar, but it's your bod, and if you'd feel better getting a second opinio, by all means, go for it! Been there, done that, and the constant fear and worry about 'what if' justifies the expense.

Call your dr. and have him schedule you for a mammogram now. Just to be on the safe side. It is very hard for even the doctors to determine if a lump is cancerous or not just by feeling the lump. (I had 2 different ones tell me that just because of my age I had nothing to worry about and that the lump I had just felt like a cyst.) It turned out that I had stage II breast cancer.
Most likely it is only a cyst, but wouldn't you feel better if you knew for sure? If he won't send you for a mammogram, find someone who will. At least that way, they've got a good baseline reading on you for future mammograms. :)
I think it's great that you are taking notice of any changes. Good luck to you and please let us know what happens.

Ok, there are several answers to your question. First, have you been seen by your GYN? They can do a physical check on your breasts. Secondly, investigate what you claim to be lumpy breasts on the internet. Some of the lumps are caused by hormones, others are just cysts. You did not mention if you are sexually active or not. You need to take all of this into consideration. But the best thing to do is consult a doctor. He / She will have the answers and be able to put your mind to rest.

You probably have what is called fibercystic breast. I have that.
You will get different lumps occasionally, and they do get quite painful around that time of month.
My doctor since im 37, has more or less ordered mammograms every year to note any changes.
Just call your doctor, tell him/her your fears.
They may order a mammo, every year or so just to be on the safe side.

Lumpiness in the breasts is very often, caffeine related. I too had this problem and reducing caffeine certainly helped. If you don't feel sure of the diagnosis, request a referral to a breast specialist, or request a mammogram, there is no harm in either. A second opinion never hurts.

I would have any lump checked out. They are probally what the doctor noticed last time (that is common), but be safe. If you are really worried tell the doctor and maybe they can do tests to ease your concerns.
