So, to continue the Dr Who questions, who was your first, Doctor that is????

The first Doctor I remember watching as a child was Peter Davison when I was about 6 or 7. I loved him, I thought he was so cool back then (remember this was the early eighties!!!!).

My parents wouldn't let me watch Doctor Who when I was growing up so sadly, I missed out as a kid.

I am currently watching the William Hartnell years(63-66) on DVD, I just finished the first ever episode, An Unearthly Child.

I am watching it all from the beginning and it's fantastic.

So at 29, he is my first Doctor

Watched them all. I remember ,as a child being confused and fascinated at the change over from William Hartnell to Patrick Troughton.Loved the Jon Pertwee era. Loved then got bored with Tom Baker. Tolerated Peter Davison and Colin Baker , Despite some poor stories enjoyed Sylvester Mccoy.

I was born 1980, so the first Doctor to have an impact on me was Sylvester McCoy. I've since watched the entirety of the McCoy years and have to say they were all a bit pants, but they paved the way for my love for the show.

I also used to love the Pete Cushing film back in the day.

The current series though is the best by such a long shot, the BBC have really pulled out all the stops. Its also nice that each episode is self-contained rather than an individual story spread over 4 episiodes.

My favourite Doctor? David Tennant by a long shot. He's just perfect at it, you can see how much he enjoys it. For the old boys, Tom Baker gets my vote, mostly because my gran knitted me one of his ridiculously long scarves when I was young.

STELLA S: There were 2 bakers, Colin and Tom. Tom had a long coat with very long stripey scarf, Colin had the campest kit ever - all yellow with red question marks, and his umbrella handle was a question mark too.

I grew up with the end of the Hartnell ear and start of the Troughton years. The earliest i can remember from tht far back is the Highlanders, but not very clearly and in the formative years I used to watch shop dummies very carefully (Terror of the Autons / The Auton Invasion).

And to stella who answered this question earlier, the 6th Doctor was Colin Baker!! Had a bad run as this was when the BBC wanted it cancelled first.

My first Doctor that I was old enough to watch was Sylvester McCoy as I was born in 1982 but I did used to sneak downstairs and secretly watch the Peter Davison ones with my dad. I have been watching the classic series ever since as my dad had all the videos which he gave to me about 15 years ago when my parents split up. I'm slowly starting to replace them on DVD now (although I've still got the videos stashed in my loft)

I Was 3 years old when Dr. Who started, I can remember when William Hartnell regenerated into Patrick Troughton, who I loved in the role. My Fave. is Tom Baker but David Tennant is doing a fantastic job today, can't wait 'till tomorrow night when he is up against the Master once more. It's the only programme worth paying the licence fee for.

William Hartnell was my first. I've been watching Doctor Who since it began in 1963. Never missed an episode since.

Edit: kaznaid - I think your memory is playing tricks on you a little - although not too badly after all those years. Patrick Troughton's Doctor was seen sitting cross legged playing his recorder, in his first story "Power of the Daleks", but his first appearance was sitting up in the Tardis looking very confused and disorientated after the regeneration. The scene you remember was later in the story.

Also Jamie didn't appear in DW till the second Patrick Troughton story "The Highlanders". He was never a companion of William Hartnell's Doctor. Ben (Michael Craze) and Polly (Annike Wills) were the companions who witnessed the first regeneration at the end of "The Tenth Planet" (also notable as the first story featuring the Cybermen).

I am sooo old - I remember William Hartnell - the first Dr Who in black and white on the TV.

His assistant was the kilt-wearing "Jamie" played by Frazer Hines (later to be Joe Sugden in Emmerdale Farm)

I was only young but I definitely remember hiding behind my Dad's armchair (didn't have a sofa!!) with the Daleks and Cybermen and some amphibian creatures too!!

I have a distant memory of when William Hartnell regenerated into Patrick Troughton - the first sight of PT was him sitting cross legged on a stone playing the flute! Could someone confirm this?

    Memories .....!

Has to be Peter Davidson - thought he was so cute back then . . .

I still remember getting a doctor easter egg made in the shape of the tardis with a cut out figure of Peter on the back.

The Ninth Doctor was my first.

I'm a Doctor Who newbie; the Sci Fi channel only started showing the new series not that long ago. David Tennant is good, but I miss Christopher Eccleston. And I have a feeling I'm going to miss Billie Piper, too, come July when they start showing the third series.
