Public Schools & Public Display of Affection?

Anyone seen the new report on T.V. about the School System making rules against Public Displays of Affection?

This also includes High Fives, & Shaking Hands?

I think that is a little ridiculous to go that far?

I was always taught in school after a sports game to shake the hands of your opposing team mates, and this law would go against this as well as high fiving your own team for a win?

What about job interview skills I was taught in school when I was told by my teacher to shake someones hand before and after the interview.

A load of BS, or a needed rule?

I saw the news and I agree. It is just covering the schools *** incase they get sued. Personal interaction is a healthy part of child development. I completely agree with you!

Yes, it is pretty bad that the world has come to this. I was in school in the 70's and early 80's. Things have changed for the worse as time goes on. Everyone has that mean Madelyn O'hare to thank for that. She had to make a big issue about getting something as innocent as prayer out of school, and she won. You don't kick God out and then expect the best. Yes, but I am a believer of God and not ashamed. Anyway, yes, you are right, but there is an alternative that can end public schools and that is if parents were to homeschool their kids. This way they make up the rules and not the school.

I worked in a Primary school. Young children demand love but you have to be sensitive to the way you display it. Some like hugs some like you to show appreciation rather differently, but yes a hugs is probably the easiest and best method of reassurance. Sadly as a male I always felt awkward doing this and was much more cautious than the lady teachers. The reason is obvious; society is getting more suspicious. In the end you do what you feel can be justified and understood. You just do your best.

It's so stupid! What, can I not give my best friend a hug at school after I haven't seen her in months? Can I not give someone a high five after accomplishing something great at school? Stupidest rule ever.

Your right a load of BS! When I was growing up I knew all the neighbors on the block. Now Just a few that wave when I pull into the driveway, others just seem to duck and hide.

BS, but they do need some rules r/e the school's policy on touching. You couldn't pay me enough to be a teacher these days. Too many discipline problems.

  • doing away with high 5s and handshakes is pretty strong. but yes there is too much touching in the schools. hopefully if we can treat each other not to touch it may improve school violence as well as public displays of affection between children who don't even know about respect for other people.
