Does anyone know anything about old fishing rods??
My husband and I bought a Delux fishing kit and the only company name we can find is Globe. We have spent the better part of the day researching for it but haven't been able to find anything. This rod is a fly fishing rod that is split bamboo and its still in its original box. there are also an almost complete set that includes flies and line. The price tag on it says $29.95. what we want to know is around when and where it was made and possibly the value in todays market.
oh yeah we already tried ebay.

Granger built a rod called the "Deluxe" which was made of split bamboo and highly sought by collectors.
I don't believe you have that, though from what you said.
"Original box" - this leads me to believe it is a post WW2
Japanese made rod. At the time almost all American rods came with a rod sock and a tube (either cardboard or aluminum). Japanese made rods were usually packaged in inexpensive wood boxes. The reason they are not worth much is because they were not made from "Tonkin" cane and were manufactured cheaply.
Look at the box and see if you can see some Japanese lettering. If so, you may get $25 for it on e-bay.

I bought a Zebco 11 not too long ago and it's great. Small too. The reel is even smaller than the toy fishing rods. I put it side by side my little nephews "Spiderman" rod and mines rod is only 6" longer and the reel is smaller! But I guess you're looking for a bigger reel than that though. I think the young ones will enjoy the pistol grip rods. It's easy for them to palm. A spin cast reel is a must. Some kind of light action pistol grip rod will do fine. 4'6-5'6 is a good length. Check out the Zebco 22. It's between a 33 (the new ones are mighty big) and an 11 (it's teeny tiny). Wal-Mart sells an all graphite casting rod with pistol grip for like $20. It's nice. Light as heck too. The Ugly Stik Jr. is a good choice too!
