Do churches pay good? Local church is hiring Adminstrative Assistant.....?

Local church is hiring an Administrative Assistant. I'm just curious if anyone knows if churches pay well and if they provide benefits like insurance and paid holidays/vacations. I've got the skills but the pay has to be right.

I've known several church administration people, and from what I have seen, they do pay competitive wages to the right people. I've never seen anyone unable to go to the hospital or doctor's offices due to not having insurance.

However, depending upon the church, the deacons and preacher might want you to be a member of that church, or at the very least, to follow their code of conduct.

That is something you'll have to find out from the individual church in question. Many churches don't used paid help at all. Some do, and pay poorly. However, there are a couple of wealthy churches in this area that I've heard have comparable pay to non-church jobs. These are things to ask within the context of an interview, because every church is different. I've personally worked for several churches, and the pay was never that fantastic, and benefits were neither discussed nor offered. In my case, it was more a labor of love.

Ask the church. Some churches pay decent, some don't. It's all dependent on many factors, especially size of church and your workload. Approach it like any job prospect and ask the interviewer these questions.

The work done in the church I attend is volunteer.

You should probably contact the church that ran the ad, they would be the only ones to know.

What ddoes one need insurance when you have God??

You probably wont get religious holidays off, I doubt the pay is any good (they will want you to work for a near charitible wage, while they keep the tithes to pay for their shiny new Mercedes) and I hear the sexual harassment isnt worth it...

Why don't you go and interview with them and let them tell you?? They pay about the same as normal jobs from what I hear.

You have to research the pay for the area you live in. That way you will know if what they offer compares to other similar jobs.

Call and set up an interview to find out.

I would say depends on the church.

Why not go to the interview see how it goes, ask those questions. Then form your answer to your own question.

best way to find out would be to ask; but i wouldn't count on it.

My brother used to teach at a Catholic high school; and they pay teachers even less than the public school system...
