spices added to Hamburger and mac hot dish?

I love mac and cheese and thought I'd add 1 16-oz sized can of stewed tomatoes. I added salt and pepper but it tasted like I missed something. I added basil, oregano, and Italian seasoning. Would it taste better if I added along with the above spices, say, marjoram and thyme? I love to cook and any ideas would help me a lot. Thanks.

I'm not sure about the Mac-N-Cheese but, I've got something for you to try out as far as seasoning for a hmburger that I tried this past weekend and it came out really good.

    HAMBURGER INGREDIENTS:

    *ground beef

    *1small onion

    *1 garlic clove

    *red wine

    *worsestershire sauce

    *TOSTITOS salsa

    *hot sauce

    *complete seasoning

Chop up the onion and 1 garlic clove into tiny pieces(sticke them in grinder if you want to make it easier). Add a little bit of each item in the meat and mix together. (TIP: using your hands to mix ingredients together will be better and easier) When you're done mixing, mold them into patties. You can either grill them or stick them in the oven for 350* until cooked the way you like it. If going to stick in the oven , it'll be best to place them on something in which the fat will drain. When done you can add cheese if you want to.

    Hope you like it!

I have a great dish my mother calls "Hamburger Mommy". It's based on Hamburger Helper. She would brown ground beef (90% -95% lean) then she would add onions, garlic, various spices (basil, parsley, etc.) after all of that browned, she would add tomato sauce and noodles (either egg or pasta). Let it cook until the noodles are cooked. This dish also works really well with rice. Some other things you can add are mushrooms, red or green peppers and also you can add some parmasan cheese. I hope you find this dish interesting. It is really good and a lot healthier than Hamburger Helper (not as much sodium).

You're missing the sauce. Use Hunt's tomato sauce. Stewed tomatoes are usually sour and affect the overall taste.

You need to add oregano powder to the meat while it's cooking. And, more salt. The key to goulash, as it's called, is a lot of salt. Don't add a bunch of spices or you miss the whole point.

Edit: I just reread your posting...ICK! You can't add all that gunk to macaroni and cheese. Macaroni and cheese can't take a lot of spice and definitely not tomatoes. From a box?...Gag! I thought you meant plain macaroni.

When are you adding in the hamburger meat? I have made those recipes that are meat, mac and cheese, and seasonings and have always found them to be lackluster. I would rather make a meatloaf and season it well and serve mac and cheese with it. Maybe you can add in chopped onions and garlic and end with a garnish of green onions for more flavor. Tell me again how are you cooking this dish?

Maybe it needs garlic or garlic powder. May need a little salt and pepper as well.

    Another idea:

My mom used to make us a hamburger and macaroni dish - she called it 'goulash' but it was really just hamburger meat cooked with onion, cooked macaroni, tomato sauce, and of chili powder to taste.

When I'm tired of the bland hamburger & mac, I add crushed tomatoes, peppers, onions, oregano, chili powder & cumin.

    Cheesy chili mac.

What you have there is almost chili con carne with pasta instead of beans, you could go the rest of the way and add some chili powder and cumin and some thyme.

Did you add the Beef??????? also, did you bake it in the oven ?? Was it the consistency or the taste that was missing then i think i can help you better.
