I have a medical question. Why would a man be taking estradiol along with spironolactone?

I have a coworker who is seeing a therapist and has recently been put on those medications. Says most of his friends have gone due to not understanding his issues and that he has not told his parents due to they would not understand either. I do know that estradiol is a female hormone so I guess Im wandering if these are something taken for sex changes, men wanting to be women?

A MAN wouldn't be taking oestradiol and spironolactone ; but a transsexual woman would.

Both drugs are often prescribed to transsexual women; oestradiol for it's feminising effects, and spironolactone for it's androgen-blocking effects.

Oestradiol is sometimes prescribed for prostate cancer, and spironolactone is sometimes prescribed for hypertension, but they wouldn't be prescribed together; oestradiol RAISES blood pressure, so they would cancel one another out.

maybe he is in the process of becoming a woman? Most transgendered take some form of estrogena nd spiro--- Spiro makes skin feminine and reduces body hair as it blocks testosterone-- it was originally developed for high blood pressure but very seldom is it prescribed for that reason--they have better drugs for high blood pressure now. So if he's taking Spiro AND estradiol he's probably becomign a woman.

I know this is a question for men, but it made me laugh so I thought i'd contribute. Also, many of these fake things are for the media- a sort of stage makeup- but I would have thought that there comes a point- when the fake nail, fake hair extentions, fake tan, overload of makeup and fake boobs could in real life- waking up next to that in the morning -be a bit like waking up next to a clown that hasn't taken it's costume off- scary. Or maybe some men like the living blow up doll look!(hehe)

Spironolactone is used to treat certain patients with hyperaldosteronism (the body produces too much aldosterone, a naturally occurring hormone); low potassium levels; and in patients with edema (fluid retention) caused by various conditions, including heart, liver, or kidney disease. Spironolactone is also used alone or with other medications to treat high blood pressure. Spironolactone is in a class of medications called aldosterone receptor antagonists. It causes the kidneys to eliminate unneeded water and sodium from the body into the urine, but reduces the loss of potassium from the body.

You are right Estradiol is a female hormone, as to why your coworker is taking it, I can only speculate.

  • Did you ever stop to think that he has high blood pressure and prostate problems. If you know that Estradiol is also used for sex reassignment than you should also know its other uses. Spironolactone is used for its diuretic effects in sex reassignment but it too has other uses. Maybe its just none of your business!

Spironolactone treats edema, hypertension, hyperaldoteronism. Its a diuretic. Primary treatments are for edema and hypertension.

Estradiol is used in men for breast and PROSTATE cancer.

So it does not necessarily mean he wants a sex change.

After doing some online research, it does seem that way, though spironolactone can be an acne treatment.

Edited to say: I'm actually thinking these are the main ingredients in Yasmin, the birth control pill. Are you sure they're his?
