The cloture bill passed, so now there is a time limit on results, why is everyone mad?
Why is everyone so upset? Everyone who is anti-illegal REJOICE!
cloture - The only procedure by which the Senate can vote to place a time limit on consideration of a bill or other matter, and thereby overcome a filibuster. Under the cloture rule (Rule XXII), the Senate may limit consideration of a pending matter to 30 additional hours, but only by vote of three-fifths of the full Senate, normally 60 votes. www.senate.gov
This means they now have a time limit to get rid of it. That is why the cloture vote is a good thing. If it would have been voted against, the bill would just keep coming back with stupid amendments. Now, all we have to wait for is the vote for the whole thing to be scrapped and they won't be able to bring it back! YAY!!
It passed 65/34 vote.

GG, you are exactly right. This bill will be dead for good soon.
The House is up for election next year. With 75% of the public against the bill, does anyone really think they will pass it?

As it turned out you were right. The Senators who voted for cloture and against the final bill get a repreive. This was bad legislation and it was good that it was finally defeated. Bush deserved the set back, but just think if he was popular enough to have had any influence. Sometimes polls are a good thing.

No. Not yea. It only takes 40 to kill it on cloture and 51 to kill it on the final vote. However, cloture will come up again, probably Thursday. Today's vote was to consider the bill again, not to limit debate. Cloture will ripen for vote on Thursday.

Only the matter of it being up for debate was passed today. It has to pass the senate and then go through the house, too! I think they did this today to get George off of their backs for a while. It could still easily be killed at any time. I'll rejoice at it's funeral!

Dear God I hope your right and the immigration bill won't be able to come back.
How pissed do you think Bush will be if his pet project ends up in the trash compactor?
I wonder if it's occured to him to move to a Country that's oppressed by Dictatorship and try his luck there for a seat in power?
Because here in America it still looks like Democracy is too strong for him to replace with his Socialist Regime.
Maybe he should try Mexico next?
He seems to have a fondness for those people that far outweighs his own.

Don't worry, the House is going to can the bill anyway. That's IF and only IF it passes the Senate. Keep calling those two-faced lying bastards to stop this BULLSH!T!
