ALS, and cigarette lighters?

I have a friend with ALS, who's unable to use a lighter anymore because his fine dextarity is has decreased so much, that he is unable to use the main lighter button, and hold down the safety mechanism as well. Matches, he has a similar problem. Any suggestions for this poor lad?

That will cause some frustration and cut into his independence. I don't know how much mobility he has, or how he gets around but is using the stove an option? I don't want to suggest anything that will start a fire or anything but I am assuming that his motor skills are okay enough to turn the stove knob. If you have a gas stove that might be a little dicey because he might singe his eyebrows, hair, etc. It is too bad that they don't make something like car lighters, where you just push it in and it pops out when it is ready and you just push the cigarette against it to light it.

    Good luck to your friend

He better have some lit hit cigarettes for him. He is liable to start a fire.
