Do we actually have Global Warming?

If you go back 10 more years on the global temps from what global warming scientist are looking at we are actually .5 degrees colder. Plus, a recent Nasa report shows that Mars has increased 6 degrees in the past couple of years. Our "emissions" dont affect mars.

Right and the environmentalist chose the gases they wanted to blame for it. The big CO2 because we burn too much fossil fuels it hasn't increased as much as they claim . God put plants here to recycle our air for us . The plants have actually processed 98% of the CO2 present . There is another secrete ,that if we eliminate all the CO2 the plants will die. If the plants die we will all die. There other gases that they want to blaim for global warming ,it is methane but they dont understand methane very well. Methane is a very light gas so how did they measure how much methane there is in our atmosphere . They would need to measure it at 50 miles plus up to measure it but it is not there. If u can not find the green house gas then there is no global warming.

Global warming scientists are looking at temperature data from a little over half a billion years and at very accurate temperature date from nearly 750,000 years. Just about every graph you look at goes back at least 200 years and in many cases by several thousand years so I don't know what you're referring to.

There is a baseline from which comparisons are taken, this is set at the mean for the period 1960 to 1990 - is this what you're referring to? If so then taking it 10 years further back would produce a lower mean temperature and would make global warming appear even more dramatic.

You're misquoting the NASA report. We have very limited data to go, what we do have suggests that some parts of Mars are warming whilst at the same time other parts are cooling. Those same reports also confirm that any warming on Mars is unique only to Mars, is in no way related to warming on Earth, is not caused by the sun and is probably the result of global dust storms that sweep across the planet.

Some skeptics also refer to a NASA report entitled Mars Is Melting when refuting global warming on Earth. This report explains that the south polar ice cap is melting, that's as far as the skeptics go. The rest of the report then explains that the north polar ice cap is expanding, that Mars has a much longer solar orbit than Earth and the melting is because the south polar ice cap is inclined towards the sun - i.e. it's springtime.

It may be prudent if you ask your source to point you to the source of their information. When you read the full NASA report you'll see that it confirms the above points I made.

Yes, and no. I used to think no, but now I think there is probably a slight warming trend.

Don't forget that global warming means global, not local. Just because it was hot in Turkey this year, or it snowed in Texas at Easter (which it did)...none of that means the GLOBE is getting hotter or colder.

The most reputable reports I've seen (as in, not Al Gore's) say there is evidence of a SLIGHT temperature change over the past 100 years.

But here's what irks me about this debate. Everyone assumes that it is unnatural and we must correct it.

If I remember right, there was a massive ice age a while back.... people and pollution weren't responsible for that, because we weren't technologically capable of polluting yet. So tell me why, when our global emissions totals dwarf in comparison to the emissions of any number of small active volcanos on the planet....why is it our fault?

The planet goes through cycles. This is a cycle. I don't know where it will stop, the ice age got pretty bad. But, it also might stop tomorrow and we could head for another ice age. Then would people be encouraging us to pollute more?

Welcome to life on a rock spinning around a giant nuclear fireball at unbelievable speed. We don't control everything, we just have a bad habit of thinking that we do. So relax, try not to stress about things you have no control of, and enjoy the ride.

You can go back even farther. Back to peak of the last Ice Age. It was a lot colder then than now.

You can't tell what Mother Nature is really doing. She may be warming things up today to cause it to be cooler tomorrow.

There was a "Little Ice Age" for about 400 years starting about 1400 AD. People are worried about the Greenland ice sheets melting and the water rising (X) feet. Have you ever considered why you would call a place almost covered in Ice Greenland? People were living in Greenland and raising livestock starting about 1000 AD. You can't do that today.

OBTW Those people who settled Greenland in 1000 died out around 1400 when the climate changed and got much colder. It was only a short term change though. It ended about 1800 and things have been warming up.

What's going to happen? Ask Mother Nature. Mankind doesn't know jack about what's going on with weather. They can't predict what it's going to do tomorrow. What makes them think they can tell what will be going on in 100 years.

There are several countries that are making global warming worse for everyone. Australia, especially is one of them. 100% of their energy comes from coal, which is horrible for the ecosystem. There are scientists who are looking for other sources of energy, such as the tide and solar power. In New York City they are testing useage of the East River for an unlimited amount of energy on the bottom of the ocean, where they have installed turbines to power a few buildings nearby (a grocery store is the tester). Eventually they hope to power 1/3 of the city using this method. If other cities in the world can get on the same page with this, it will slow down global warming. It is very real, unfortunately. I highly doubt we will see the effects in our lifetime but we must act now in order that people in the next generations will not be effected by our wastefulness.

Not sure what Mars has to do with the question, but what I can tell you is that the term "Global Warming" is often times misinterpreted. Global warming does not mean that the temperatures are going to just rise. They will fall too durring the winter. Global warming means greater weather shifts. The number between the lowest and the highest temperatures recorded in a year's time is going to rise (Which it is). Do you see the uprise in storms and tornados and floods and such in the last few years? That's because of these weather shifts that are, in fact, starting to occur. How long it's going to take to get completely out of hand is hard to predict.

I used to live in Russia and when I was little we used to get tons and tons of snow. I mean, you could get burried in it durring the winter if you weren't careful where you stepped. When I moved to the US I was surprised to find that it was a miracle to my cousins to even see snow durring the winter time. Now we're progressively getting more and more snow over here while our friends in Russia are saying that they are barely getting any. Something's wrong with this picture, no?

So yes. Global Warming is happening and it is starting to affect our planet. The sad thing is that not much is really being done about it. Heh... hope this answers your question.

Mars atmosphere is over 90% CO2.

Mars is farther fromt he sun than venus or earth, so if you are trying to imply the sun, you shot your own point down.

I have yet to see any credible source, that suggests the average global mean temperature is colder.

Well scientists try to link there fractions of degree to massive snow formation changes....I don't believe Kilimanjaro no longer has a glacier on top of it because of "global warming." The trends are clear that we might be entering another ice age, I dont think that we caused it.

Here's the data on temperature. it's warming. 1998 was just an unusual year, which happens.

Here's the data on Mars, showing it's not the same as on Earth.

    http://www.nasa.gov/centers/ames/research/2007/mar...

Besides, most of the planets are not warming, so it's not the Sun.

Yes, it is certain that there is global warming, and yes, we have already started to face its bad effects here in Turkey. This year, for the first time in my life, we haven't been able to get crops from our fields because of draught and excessively hot weather.

Today, 5 people have died here because of hot weather.

The ones who claim its effects will be seen in distant future are only waiting for their turn to come.
