2001 Ford Focus LX?
I have one and lately I have been having trouble starting the darn thing. The steering wheel will lock and then the key won't turn? WTF???
I just had the clutch replaced and now this! Does anyone know what could be wrong? The ignition, something internal. This will probably cost me another $900.00! Geesh!
p.s. Does anyone want to buy a Ford???

I agree with bartzan 100%!!! Go to your local Ford dealer to get a quote on an ignition lock cylinder replaced BEFORE you can no longer turn the key in the ignition. If you do it NOW, the cost of labour will be A LOT less, believe me. Typically, a Ford dealer will charge about 3 hours of labour to drill out a lock cylinder that won't turn in the ignition, plus the cost of towing to the dealer. If you do it now, the dealer should only charge you ONE hour of labour plus the cost of the new ignition lock cylinder. The EXACT problem you are having is EXACTLY why a replacement lock cylinder is identical to the ones the 2005 to current model year Focuses use. There haven't been any further issues with it, since its change in design. And regarding the cost of your clutch replacement, consider that as the cost of owning and operating a manual transmission equipped vehicle, which has NOTHING to do with the make of the car. Hope this helps.

If you didn’t have this problem before your clutch was replaced I would suspect the shop may have not got all the parts and linkages back together right.
I know on a lot of cars if the linkage or sensor in the transmission isn’t in the park position or neutral it locks the steering wheel.
Get good references of some good independent mechanics from your friends and family and have him look at it. I think with a little looking it over you will save some money. Stay away from the big franchise repair places.
I hope this helps some.
