Which type of strings are better for a classical guitar: Nylon or Metallic?

Classical Guitars ALWAYS have nylon strings... the trebles are solid nylon, and the bass strings are nylon wound in very thin silver or nickel... i guess before nylon was invented they used gut, but solid metal strings on a classical guitar are an invitation for trouble... beyond just not having the right sound, they take more tension to tune up and will eventually pull the bridge off the body of the guitar.... trust me I did it to my Mom's guitar!

How can you tell if you have a classical or regular acoustic guitar?

1. classical guitars almost NEVER have pick guards ('cause you play with your fingernails!)

2. classical guitars have bridges with holes to pull the strings through, and usually the strings are tied, although you can use ball end strings. Regular acoustic guitars use pin-end bridges, where you have to pop the pins out to change the strings.

3. The tuners are open, ie. the strings wind up INSIDE the open holes in the neck, not around pegs on the top of the tuners.
