I'm trying to lose weight. If I exercise by brisk walking (50mins./session) twice a day, will my legs slim down?

I'm scared that they won't because the fat will turn into muscle, thus remain the same size or even be bigger.

You will trim down but 50 minutes a day is a little excessive.

You can get more work done in a shorter amount of time if you are willing to run. Most people find it effective to run 40 minutes a day 4 times a week.

Wow, my, that's doing more than what I am doing.

I walk moderately brisk one hour/session for every weekday morning and rest on weekends by doing other activities, sometimes, biking or shopping or nothing.

You will burn fat equally all over when you exercise and lose weight. But by over exercising one portion of your body, in your case, your legs, you will of course build muscles.

The end result is bulky legs, not fat legs. I am not sure which is worse.

Why not do this? Reduce it to one session a day. Then swing your arms along as you walk. This will increase your energy consumption by 30% more. You lose weight and not gain bulky muscles. It is a good deal.

As your fat mass turns into muscle mass, you will slim down because fat mass take three times more space than muscle mass.

Let's say you replaced one pound of fat by one pound of muscle, your weight remained unchanged but you will be thinner because that pound of muscle takes three times less space than the pound of fat it replaced.

Plus that new pound of muscle will need about 30 calories/day for maintenance so you can either eat more or lose even more fat reserve.

Let's say you get into shape and gain 4 pounds of muscle, you will need 120 calories/day to maintain them which is about 3,600 calories a month with is more than the calorie you need to spend to lose a pound of fat.

Every month, those 4 pounds of muscle will devour that one pound of fat as fuel.

Don't worry about losing weight (fat loss), just make sure you gain weight (muscle gain) and your fat reserve will disappear in the long run.

Your going to lose weight if you do that exercise routine daily and eat properly. NO junk foods. It is possible that you might not lose size in your legs from the exercise, but the good news is that they will become very shapely. Shapely is hot, so keep at it girl!

As long as u do stretching of your legs and cooling down exercise after the walk will not make your calf big.

dont worry about it. just drink lot of water and eat healthy food. 5 servings a day. have fun by cutting them and making fruit salad. for your salad to be perfect use chilled water and put your lettuce or any vegetables in it. let it be cooled for 30 minutes. then drain it so it will crunchy and fresh. it will definitley be tasty..!

yes try to walk every day (but not at the hottest time of that day...don't want to get dehydrated)

i really recommend that you do yoga

it lengthens your muscles and slims you down....along with being sooo relaxing

rent a few beginner yoga dvds to try out...maybe get a "buddy" to do it with

it's so much more fun when you have a buddy...i do it with my sister and it's great!

    have fun!♥

Yes, but you would have to take care of your diet as well. Excersice alone will not help if the intake is more and unhealthy. Avoid sugar, oil, chochlates, fried and fatty food.
