Wow that stirred it up, first off we would need to know what the fish is, is there a male and female.
Unlike the idiot that thinks only mammals give birth to live young, some of us idiots that no nothing, know better, is the fish a live bearing fish?
Chances are you say fish, so either you've just bot a platy, guppy, swordtail, or mollie and it was pregnant when you bot it, just leave it to nature to sort by the time you get back from hols you will either have a tank full of fry or a rather plump female that's well sated.
If its an egg layer then it needs a male and again by the time you get back the deed will or will not be done.
Have a good holiday

K, first of, not all fish lay eggs. Guppies for example, give birth to live young. If you have a fish that is in a single tank, do what people above have said, get a seperate tank for the mother and just continue feeding them. If it is in a tank with more than just the mother, take the babies out or you can buy a special net that hooks onto the side of the tank and the babies can live in there. Simple enough.

Put her in a tank by herself and leave her alone until she has the babies. It's very important to get her out of the tank and put her somewhere else after she has the babies because she'll eat them. You don't have to watch her like a hawk, just put her in a place where you can easily see her and you will go by often. Good luck! And don't worry about it...everything will be fine....just get momma outta there...she WILL eat those babies! Well, they will be eggish for a while....some fish lay fish that are already alive...not all of them are in eggs outside the mother, the rest are in eggs, but inside the mother...for all those "smart people" who answered and said fish only lay eggs...they lay live fish too!

Well as it has be said most fish just lay eggs, and they don't get that much bigger before they do. It's possible it's bloated, or has dropsy (swelling due to organ failure).
The live bearers do give birth. These include the guppy, molly, platy, and swordtail. In the case of these there really isn't much to do other than feed a healthy diet. In the case of live bearers eating flakes they may need more veggies. Adding an algae flake to their diet, or a soft veggy with lots of vitamins like a thin zucchini slice would be good once or twice a week. Other than that there isn't much to do. Live bearers just pop out babies, and then eat them every few months. To keep the babies alive you'll need a breed box, breed nest, or breeding tank.

Ask yourself - Do you want fry (baby fish)? If the answer is no, then do nothing.
If your pregnant fish is a livebearer, most of the fry will be eaten and you will still probably have a few survive. If it's an eggbearer, then when she releases her eggs and they are fertilized by the male then most of the eggs will probably be eaten and those that hatch the fry will also be considered food until they are older. You only need to do something if you want to keep the fry alive.
You probably have a livebearer, some will probably survive, and she will be pregnant again almost immediately - they retain sperm for several months so even if you don't have a male there will be a few batches. So let it go this time and just see what happens. Your best bet is to make sure there are plenty of plants (plastic are fine) for the fry to hide in.

they don't get pregnant because they are fish, fish lay eggs and the mother knows how to take care of them it is called instinct. but get another fish tank. after they are all born put them all in the other fish tank. the mother will eat them

well dont change the water. keep an eye on it. when it lays the eggs separate it. A lot of the times fish will eat its own eggs..

let the fish have the babies, the chances of them living are slim to none...if their is other fish in the tank...they will eat them. i had dalmation fish who had babies twice...but we were never able to keep them alive. they have to be cared for alot....we even did what the petstore said....but eventually they all died.
oh and for the smart a****....all fish dont lay eggs....the dalmation fish i just mentioned...did not lay eggs, they actually laid the babies....who were very tiny and could swim around....get ur facts right.

All right. This is a hard but beautiful time. I suggest you register at a local target or wal mart. Make sure you put what crib you want and i would say you should get one of theose cribs that converts. Next time wear a condom. Human fish are a trip. i can only imagine how much he/she will be teased.
