Alaskan Klee Kai?

Description

The Alaskan Klee Kai is a smaller version of the Alaskan Husky, though it physically resembles the Siberian Husky. It is between 10-40 pounds (4.3-18 kg.), comes in 3 size varies, and 3 color choices.

Temperament

Alaskan Klee Kai's shed, bark, and have a high energy level, therefore not making them ideal choices for everyone. However, if in an appropriate home, the Klee Kai can be a wonderful companion. They are friendly but somewhat reserved with strangers. Docile and very loving.

Height: Standard 15-17.5 inches (38-42 cm.)

Height: Miniature 13-15 inches (33-39 cm)

Height: Toy under 13 inches (33 cm.)

Weight: Standard 23 pounds (10 kg.)

Health Problems

The breed has little health problems.

Living Conditions

Because of there size, these dogs can live in an apartment, but a house with at least a small yard is recommended.

Exercise

These dogs should be exercised regularly, however, are not as

dependant on exercise as their larger relatives.

Unknown yet, but 14 years is a good estimate

Average of 1 - 3 puppies

Grooming

This breed sheds and should be combed and brushed on a regular basic. This breed is an average shedder.

Origin

The Alaskan Klee Kai has a lot of Alaskan and Siberian Husky, as well as small amounts of American Eskimo in some dogs. They were developed in the 70's and are a relatively new breed. They were bred to be companions and numbers are increasing.

They tend to be very vocal and can be difficult to train. Unless you are experienced with Huskies I would not recommend them as a first time dog.

Cute, yes. A "breed" ? Since they have 3 sizes I'd say they aren't breeding true yet. I'd call them a cute mix.

They tend to have the worst traits of the Siberians from what I've seen and yet some are cute enough that you won't kill them.

Most people that buy Sibes end up dumping them. I'm sure the Klee Kai will end up in Rescues soon as they get popular.

Sibes and Mals are NOT a breed for everyone, so I don't know how making a small version makes that better?

If you live somewhere with neighbors nearby I'd skip this breed IMHO

Avoid trendy new "breeds". If you want an independent dog that won't listen unless you are truly dedicated, look at Shibas...as least they aren't as vocal.

This breed is designed to be a perfect miniature of the Alaskan Husky. They're a small spitz-type dog (foxy face, curled tail), and like most spitz-type dogs, is lively, bouncy, barky, cheerful, affectionate, independent, and high-energy. They range in size from under 13 inches to up to 17 1/2 inches high at the shoulder. They are considered to be a rare breed.

The temperament is similar to the white American Eskimo/Japanese Spitz/German Spitz, to whom they are probably related.

They're probably not a good dog for a first-time dog owner because of their energy and independence. They're not the best for an apartment because of their tendency to be barky.

You'll learn so much about choosing the best breed for you!

this is a relatively a new breed so not much is known. some people dont even know the averaege of how long they are capable of living! theyre a mix of several different types of breeds including the husky, malamute, sometimes pomeranian, spitz, chihuahua, etc. they have a standard, miniature, and a toy size.
