Does the tivo dual turner work with Direct tv satellite?

No the Tivo Dual Tuner will not work correctly. The Tivo Dual Tuner has two tuners but the Tivo does NOT record two Digital Channels at the same time. It is ONLY able to record either two analog channels at the same time or One Digital Channel and ONE Analog Channel at the same time. From the link below from Tivo's Website. This is what it states at the very bottom of the page: "* Record from two basic cable channels, or one basic cable and one digital cable channel, at once. Does not support recording from two digital cable or satellite channels at once. Supports recording from cable and satellite sources only; does not support recording from over-the-air antenna"

Since you have DirecTV you can still purchase upgraded DirecTV Tivo's from http://www.weaknees.com/ or http://dvrupgrade.com/ or Ebay. DirecTv still allows DirecTV Tivo's to work with their system and on your account.

Is direct tv providing you with a tuner card for each, or are you using a direct tv tuner box with 2 tuner cards?

Not all satellite/cable/fiber provider tuner boxes have dual tuners. If your satellite receiver (or tivo) has only one tuner card, you only get one channel.
