Haha, I have the same issue with my cat. How often do you brush your dog? Try brushing her every day and see if the shedding deminishes. What happens when you don't brush as often as needed, the fur accumulates in tangles and comes out in clumps, so it seems like a month's worth of fur comes out in a day. Labs don't shed very much but chows certainly do, so your dog picked up that unfortunate gene. To be sure it's nothign medical, check with your vet as soon as possible.

I just adopted a black lab/chow mix. That poor dog had an obscene amount of fur. I took him to PetsMart and had him shaved. Cost $40 dollars but not only does he look better but he feels better in this summer heat.

The funniest part was when I had to buy him a new collar as we were leaving because after they shaved him his old collar was way too big.

When I say shaved I don't mean you can see skin. They shave him down where there's only about a 1/2 inch of fur.

I adopted my Chow/Samoyed mix 9 years ago; he is a bundle of fur. The only thing you can do is brush him. I also get him groomed at the local Pet Smart (yes they work with Chows, but make sure he doesn't like to bite the vacuum/drier.

I hate to break it to you, but my boy has killed two vacuums (due to massive hair shedding) and every spring I have to brush out the undercoat (I end up with two small Chihuahuas). So to "manage" the hair shedding, beyond the grooming, is to get a palm fitting brush (I have a metal one with rounded tips), and make it a daily game. It will take awhile to get the chow to like it, but quiet frankly I get daily comments on how beautiful he is especially how soft his hair is. Good luck.

you really can't stop the shedding. everyone is asking the same thing. my husky should be bald for the amount of hair he is loosing. so is my daughters sheperd mix. it is the time of year the old fur is falling out. just brush him alot and run your fingers through to loosen the fur up. take him outside and let it fly and keep your vacum handy.other than that the shedding will take its course. my husky does this about 2 or 3 times a year. it is annoying but one of the hazzards of having a hairy breed of dogs. sorry its nature. good luck.

Brush her a lot. Is there a way you can get her use to the vacuum hose? Some people can get their animals use to them and just suction them off too, now and then. I cleaned for a family that had a chow. It was like tumble weed on the floor.

Well you can take her to a groomers to get bathed or just bathe her. You can buy one of the brushes just used for shedding too.

Your out of luck there you can comb her every day. It will slow down after summer. That's her winter coat.
