We have both Thai and Vietnamse food all over the place here in Australia and I have eaten both and they are NOT that similar. SOME dishes are the same only because they are from the same Chinese influence origin (say, stir fried beef in garlic and pepper)
My opinion is - NO.

No. Thai food is different from Vietnamese food. Also, the manner of preparation and cooking. Generally, Thai food is very spicy (hot) while Vietnamese food is not.

Chao ban, anyways...generally food of Asian cuisine tends to have a trace of similiarity but each with its own unique touch.
Thai tends to have alot of spicy foods and uses alot of herbs etc. Whereas Vietnamese food is generally less spicy and yes also uses ALOT of herbs and vegetables + fish and soy sauce. When there's fish sauce it tends to be thought to be Vietnamese or there abouts. Thai also has many Chinese influenced food especially from the Northern regions of Thailand and similarly with Vietnam.
Overall, there is that uniqueness that affirms both cuisines as different. But for someone who may not be used to these cuisines, they would say they're similar. Much like French and Italian. Are they different? = It's practically the same question. Of course they are different but will share similar traits. Vietnamese has ALOT of soups and random foods!!!

the answer to that question is a NO because Thai cooks their food spicy and Vietnamese is less spicy and steam and Vietnamese has more variety of food than they do.

no.
sometime they got close, kind of like asia melting pot, but the flavor is so different.
well, unless you come to a viet family who learns to cook Thai food, and vice versa then you'll get all mixed up...in the head and in your taste bud! :p
