Vista compatibility with Win98/XP games?

Does MS Vista run the same programs and games as Win XP and Win 98 with no problems? I'm considering the upgrade but didn't want to leave some of my older games behind.

Windows vista is backward compatible with DirectX9 games built for Windows XP. However hardware manufacturers are working hard to make drivers to ensure that all their products are working with Windows Vista.

I would recommend that you go to CNET's Complete Guide to Windows Vista.

No, Vista has compatibility issues with many software applications (especially 16 bit applications). I bigger problem you will have though is hardware compatibility. Most computers that are a year old or older will not be able to use Vista. Also, Vista is new, give it time to have the bugs worked out. I have heard from many people of their disappointment with Vista, most of it due to hardware incompatibility. I would recommend that you stick with XP and if you want Vista, then invest in a new computer (not a used one) as that will be the only way you can be sure that the hardware is compatible.

NO it does not. Vista has big compatibility problems. Some games do not work and a lot of printer software does not work either. You will have to download new drivers for all your peripheral devices.

    Stick with XP.

It depends upon the game requirement, mostly in xp itself there are few games cannot be support if there is any high version of Video card/Graphic is needed.. so check with that game requirements given in that game cover. And vista has most compatible issue so before you upgrade with that try checkin all the requirements that you have in your computer... like memory, HDD, and others too...

Check the below link for the requirements:

Some programs running in Windows XP may not run perfectly in windows vista. As far as I know, windows does not support backward compatibility.

This is also true for the other windows software such as microsoft office.

Maybe do a update on the game that you have. Maybe that will work... Maybe.... It depends.
