  • How long can a mechanic legally keep your car without fixing it?

I had my 03 minivan in a garage for over 14 months and they've yet to fix it; I was given no written estimate and troubleshooting has been unending.

I'm going to try and pick it up or have it towed elsewhere and I don't want to be in the wrong by wanting to simply get the vehicle off of his lot.

Should I pay if he tries to charge for hours put into troubleshooting, or should I get a lawyer if he holds the vehicle hostage until I pay?

  • Best 1-slot PC video card for a casual gaming rig?

I'm using a beefed up Dell Optiplex 745 as a gaming rig but it only allows for 1-slot video cards; what is the best high-performance single-bay card out there? I'm looking for something that can run Diablo3, EVE, Star Wars Online, or some other MMORPG.

    Thanks!

  • Upgrading a P4 CPU to a compatible multi-core CPU?

My PC currently runs a Pentium 4 3.0 Ghz single core CPU; Win7 rates it as a 1.7 on it's "Windows Experience Index", which is the lowest rating of all the parts in my PC. The other ratings vary from 4.0 to 5.5 and I'd like to upgrade the CPU.

I'd like to know if there are multi-core CPUs out there that wouldn't be too advanced for the mobo to handle, and if so, which one would be the best while remaining compatible with the mobo CPU slot. I'm a network admin but have lost track of PC parts tech expertise over the last decade.

    Thx in advance.

  • Custom sewing a loop on the end of a tow strap?

I'm using a 1500lb. tow strap as a bow string for a home-engineered ballistae; I need to form a loop on both ends of the strap that will fit over the ends of the bow, to be held in place by pins that prevent the loop from slipping. I can't find any vendor who sells an appropriate weight thread or any online documentation of how to form the loop. Any information in this direction would be very helpful.

    Thanks!

  • My daughter needs a top of the line sports bra!?

She's the starting goalie on her High School soccer team and gets lots of work during games (the team is very young and loses often); she's also well-endowed for her age (38D) and needs a top sports bra for support.

    Can you recommend one?

Owners of one get higher marks!

  • 2003 Honda Odyssey wheel noise?

My Odyssey makes a whining noise that increases in tone with wheel speed - NOT engine RPMs; while rolling, I shifted into neutral and revved the engine - the sound remained constant.

At lower speed (under 30 mph), it almost feels as if something is rubbing or grinding, but as I rotated tires, the rear wheels seemed to spin smoothly. There is no popping or other sounds that might indicate CJ joint trouble.

I suspect either rear bearings or a transmission issue; this van has already had the recall repair done, but I realize as I type this that I have not checked the transmission fluid level.

    Opinions?

  • Cisco PIX: Access-list blocking by domain name vs. IP?

This is a simple one, so I'm hoping for a quick reply.

I currently block malicious domains by manually resolving them and blocking the IP address on the inside (outbound) access-list in the PIX 535; is it possible to configure an access-list to auto-resolve DNS and block by domain name, or would this be too slow of a process for an access-list to accomplish?

    Thanks

  • Chinese New Year's dessert ideas?

I'm catering a Chinese New Year's themed event for my historical reenactment society; I seek a traditional Chinese dessert that would be served any time before the 15th century.

If you can't come up with one, any dessert that is simple enough for me to make for about 50 people would still work for me.

    Thanks!

  • World of Warcraft into: CD purchase required?

A friend of mine recently installed WoW on my PC from his CD set, using his account to login.

Does the WoW 10-day introduction offer obligate you to buy a second CD set once the introductory period expires, or can you create a full account from the install of the CD set you borrowed?

  • Vista compatibility with Win98/XP games?

Does MS Vista run the same programs and games as Win XP and Win 98 with no problems? I'm considering the upgrade but didn't want to leave some of my older games behind.

  • Cisco 3560G vs 3750G?

    Thanks

  • Bad NIC, or bad OS?

I have a Win XP Home PC that gets a link light to the router but fails to get an IP from DHCP; when I attempted an 'ipconfig /release - /renew through a command promt, I immediately got this error:

    >ipconfig /renew

    Windows IP Configuration

An error occurred while renewing interface Local Connection 3: The RPC Server is unavailable

    >

    I tried again and got:

    >ipconfig /renew

    Windows IP Configuration

An error occurred while renewing interface Local Connection 3:

    The Remote Procedure Call failed

    >

Should I reinstall Win XP to fix this?

I'm a certified network administrator and have tested all other network connection elements, except for the OS. I've uninstalled the NIC and reinstalled, to no effect. The router and patch cable have been tested and ruled out.

    Thanks

  • MS Word page formatting experts?

How do you page format to create a book fold format booklet from an 8.5x11" MS Word document? I’ve got a 68 page .doc file that I’d like to convert to a book fold layout that will print on 34 pages, double-sided, like a small book.

    Thanks!

  • Garage door opener seizing - causes?

My automatic garage door opener has begun to stop after moving a couple of feet, either up or down; the sensor is not obstructed - I suspect cold weather is freezing the spring axle on the door, but oiling it didn't help.

  • Weight to volume conversion for flour?

I just found a bread recipe that I want to try, but the ingredient list calls for 1 1/2 lbs. of flour and I do not have a scale; can anyone either convert 1 1/2 lbs. of flour to a volume measurement for me or measure out this weight and tell me how much you got?

    Thanks!

  • The ex has gone psycho - opinions on next step?

My ex and I share hobbies and cross paths often due to meetings and group activities; a civil breakup for the sake of our shared friends and interests has degraded and is now becoming acrimonious. I'm leaving details out to avoid bias.

I'm looking for suggestions that will try to avoid one of us having to leave our hobbyist community; we're both fairly involved and are local group officers, so continued strife will mean gossip, drama and hassles in a public forum.
