Honda Civic 2000?

I am looking to buy a car, a local dealer is offering a 2000 Honda Civic for $8000. It has 106,000 miles on it, it feels strong and looks good.

My question is, how many miles can I expect to get out of this car? The dealer claims that Civics can go to 200,000 miles. I usually don't drive much, maybe 4000 miles a year, but have some trips ahead of me of about 2000 miles. Is this car likely to make it OK? Are there special maintanance problems I need to know about?

Also, the ceiling of the trunk has no pad, the speakers and wires are exposed, is there supposed to be a pad there?

Thank you.

Go to nada.com [National Automabile Dealers Assoc]and also to kbb.com [Kelly Blue book]. Plug in the information about this car - how many doors, mileage, equipment, model, and your zip code - that will give you a good idea of the price.

I ran some numbers on this vehicle with standard equipment -- the dealer price in every one of those illustrations was at least 10% less than this offer you described.

The missing insulation pad and the exposed wires suggests a former owner was sloppy and a do-it-yourselfer. What does that suggest to you about prior maintenance?

Civics are excellent cars, in general. This one seems like potential problems and if you are paying more than top dollar, as the blue book prices suggest, you should get a showroom quality car. This one isn't it. You need to keep looking, and keep asking questions like you did here.

Treat this as a learning experience about used car salesmen. You are not a valued customer: instead, you are viewed as a sheep to be sheared of your money.

In 96 I bought a 89 Honda CRX si that had 91xxx miles on it for $5400. I had this car for 10 years and put a total 243xxx miles on the original engine. It's possible to put over 200xxx mile on a Honda. How you drive and maintain the car will determine it's life. Dealers know that this cars can last and for that reason they're trying to make money out of it. 100,xxx miles on a Honda is nothing. My mom bought a CRV with 108xxx on it for $12,000. It didn't seem right to me at all but after consulting the KBB (Kelly Blue Book) she bought the car.

both are dual cam vtec for the start, if the prelude is automatic it is not that good there auto-stick is notorious for problems. civic si less hp about 160 for a 1.6 where as the prelude is about 190 for a 2.2 i think personally the prelude is nice but it is bulky. put the h22 or a b18c in the civic and you have a way nicer car. prelude is better for rarity. civic is better for practicality. depends how you define better!!. performance the h22 is stronger yet the civic is lighter so there about the same on the 1/4 mile.

I honestly think they are asking too much for that car. It will depend on the model also. The civic in 2000 came in a DX, LX, and EX trim models. I think that you could find the same model year with less miles for less money.
