Is it safe to leave balcony door open?
I live in a second-floor apartment in a fairly safe area. The balcony has a sliding glass door. Is it safe to leave the door open at night? Anyone who wanted to come in would have to use a ladder and the neighbors would probably hear or see something.

No some crimials specialize in second floor apartments as they tend to leave the door to the balcony open making them quick to enter. if you are in the house alone at night. bell it (so to speak) they little sensor that can be placed on the screen door that will alarm if it is open.

I live on the 3rd floor and I usually close the sliding door to my balcony just to be safe than sorry and I live with my husband. I do have the bedroom window with the screen wide open though for fresh air at night. I'm always paranoid that some one can climb over our wall on the stairwell and climb over to our balcoy because I see that it can be done. Just keep your sliding door closed and locked when you go to bed and if you feel hot at night keep a fan on. If you don't have a fan, keep an ice pack. Also, keep a charged cell phone on your night stand incase you need it immediately.

I once lived on the twelfth floor and my next door neighbour managed to lock herself out, while disposing of garbage. Her baby was sleeping inside. She came to me and asked if I could swing around the divider on our adjoining balconies, to open her sliding door. I did just that, stepping outside the rail, sidestepping to her side and climbing the rail again. The door was unlocked and I gained entry, unlocking her front door.
This was on the twelfth floor, remember, so second floor entry would be a snap.

I wouldn't. I used to live in an apartment with a second story balcony with a thick stucco wall. I stored my mountain bike there, but somehow somebody still stole it one night. In this day and age, play it safe. Any place is prone to a criminal visit. The most unexpected are the easiest targets.

If i was you i would close the door just to be extra safe. You never know when those sneaky burglars can break in to your apartment. Even if its a safe area you could never be too sure.

no because you can get robbed at night easily!
why do you even want to leave the sliding door open???

no longer risk-free in any respect... thieves can locate pointers on a thank you to arise there relatively or in simple terms detect a ladder someplace close to by and get it. on the invention channel there's a practice talked approximately as "it takes a thief" and it relatively is trouble-free for them to get right into a house carry whether it takes shifting into the abode on the 2d floor.

If someone wants to get in, they will. Having said that, never leave an obvious easy way in. You don't want to risk your safety.
