  • Is it safe to sell laptops on a site like Cash for Laptops?

Can you really rely on them to erase all the data so it doesn't fall into the wrong hands?

I have some old nonworking laptops that my brother gave me when he was moving. This site offered me $20 for one and $64 for another, so I would like to sell them. But I don't want anyone to get my brother's social security number or credit card info or anything like that.

  • Why does Yahoo Answers delete paragraph breaks when you edit an answer?

The new format is terrible. When I edit an answer, it takes out all the paragraph breaks so my answer is just one long paragraph. Also, just now as I try to post this question, it is showing a similar question which says it was posted six years ago, but it was really six days ago.

And another thing: Why does it only show half the categories? You have to keep clicking "more" to find the category you want. Also it only shows a few questions at a time, not nearly as many as the old format. I can't believe anyone thought that was a good idea.

The new format stinks and I hate it. Thanks for listening.

  • Why does a Bing window keep popping up on the screen of my PC?

I don't use Bing and have never knowingly used it to search or anything. The Bing window keeps popping up in the lower right corner of the screen and I can't minimize it or close it without restarting the PC. If I open up Task Manager it does not show the Bing window so I can't close it that way. I use Firefox for Internet browsing.

  • Computer repeatedly shuts down when starting up or at random times?

I have an HP Media Edition that is almost 3 years old. I have antivirus software and it does not appear to have any viruses. About 6 months ago, it started shutting down suddenly, usually soon after being started up. Sometimes it shuts itself down and immediately restarts. Sometimes it just freezes up and has to be turned off manually. Sometimes the screen just goes black and I have to turn it off. Sometimes it will not complete the startup before shutting down again. Sometimes it starts beeping after shutting down. If it goes on hibernate, it can hibernate for several days, but as soon as I try to use it again, it shuts itself down. Usually after restarting, I will get an error message that says something like "Your system has recovered from a serious error. Please send a report to Microsoft. To see what the report contains, click here." Then it directs me to the Microsoft website and some sort of troubleshooting, which I tried a few times, but it never did any good. I have tried defragging, but it did not help.

Can anyone tell me what the problem is before I have to go out and buy a new computer? Thanks.

  • Is it safe to leave balcony door open?

I live in a second-floor apartment in a fairly safe area. The balcony has a sliding glass door. Is it safe to leave the door open at night? Anyone who wanted to come in would have to use a ladder and the neighbors would probably hear or see something.
