Suggestions for putting antibiotic ointment in my cats wound?

This sounds kind of weird, but if your cat is docile (even the littlest, tiniest bit) it works. Since the wound is on his face too, you'll be able to use this perhaps.... I kneel, and then sit on my heels. Between your crotch/butt and the ground and your calves, there is a little space, and I pin my cat there. I kinda sit on him, and he doesn't struggle too much because he is COMPLETELY pinned. He's facing down on the ground, laying normally, just with me keeping him there (see, this sounds weird!!). Generally, I point my toes together too behind my cat's butt, so that my cat can't back up and out. It works pretty well because the only way your cat can get out is go forward, and they're usually backing up away from the meds (or if not, they're easier to control because they are completely pinned by your weight). You have full access to give them meds because you are facing them, just have to give the meds from slightly behind them though.... My cats are completely docile now when I have to do that (flea meds every month!!), although at first it wasn't quite so easy, I could always keep them where I wanted them.

I feel your pain about the abscess, it sucks! One of my cats has had 3 of them in the last year and a half (I keep him in at night now). I had to do the cone thing to keep him from licking it too, argh...

I think you're on the right track with wrapping him up and making sure you have help. Also, cutting his nails beforehand is a good suggestion. My female cat recently had a cut on her leg that required similar care, and while she is very good with being handled, she would not sit still long enough for us to put the lampshade collar thing on her. Enter fresh catnip. We got a small plant from the pet store and snipped a leaf off for her. Well, she chomped on it for a few minutes and was in la la land shortly after. No more collar drama. Maybe this is something you could try?

well seems like you got it! all you gotta do is have your husband wrap him up and hold him down while you put the ointment on his face, that is the best approach hands down.and just use a cotton ball to get all the drainage out. and to get him to orally take his medication i would just crush it and put it in some wet food. what you said about wrapping him in the towel is going to work if your husband helps...also if you let him outside I wouldnt until the wound heals there is too much dirty germs out there that will make the healing a longer process

try to cut his nails that is what I do when I have to do this.

My cat is a good fighter but sometimes gets this.
