Should I put a plate under my cake?

I have one of those plastic portable cake holders. I'm bringing it to a party tomorrow, should I put a plate under the cake or should I place the cake directly on the base of the cake carrier?

You will need a flat plate for the cake. Use a spoonful of cake icing to anchor the cake to the plate so it won't slide around. Then when you arrive at the party, take the whole thing out of the carrier and place on the table. If you don't put the cake on a plate..... how are you gonna slice it in the cake carrier? It won't slice evenly; but you may not care.... Do you know if there will be a knife there, for slicing the cake? You might be on the safe side to carry one, just in case.

If you are serving from carrier will make the difference on presentation.

If the cake holder has a flat base where the cake would sit then no, don't bother, just place a dollie or small piece of wax paper inside and place cake on it then frost & decorate.

If the base is grooved then yes- it was designed for a plate and will make slicing easier. It doesn't have to be ceramic plate, A paper or plastic plate large enough or a cardboard cake board (you can get at a bakery or specialty shop).

TIp: remember to allow 2in space around cake sides so frosting won't get messed up by touching sides and cake will look intact when ready to unveil and serve.

Don't use a plate. The plate will probably curve up on the sides and mess up your cake. Just put it straight on the carrier. Everyone will love that you baked a cake and won't even notice. If anything, you could put a doily under the cake, but not a plate.

If it's an outdoor party which I'm assuming it is would refrain from glass plates. I do think that a plate would look nicer than the bottom of you carrying tub. So maybe a nice plastic festive plate, or don't worry about it. You can always decorate the base of the cake with fresh fruit to hide the base and provide great color not to mention great taste!!!!!!!

Are you kidding? You made this spectacular cake, show it off. Go to your local dollar store, buy a bowl and a plate large enough to hold the cake. Turn the bowl upside down and glue the bowl to the plate ( platter ) so it sets up on the table. This made cake display costs next to nothing and be thrown away after use.

If the cake holder separates from the cover, then by all means put your cake on it. If you are concerned about whether its attractive or not, you can always add some greenery and fresh flowers around the base.

Get a paper plate or a piece of foil wrapped cardboard. That way if you decide to give the cake to some one,the plate will be theirs to toss out...

go to a craft store like "Michaels" and purchase a cake cardboard. they come in packs of 6 or so. they are very sturdy. that way, your cake will stay stable, and you won't have to worry about the plate.

For ease you can use a plate. You won't have to clean the carrier, and you don't want knife cuts in the bottom of you carrier.
