Help me find a site where I can legally download songs as MP3s?
I want to download music legally and have no issues paying for it. The thing I do have a problem with is iTunes. I tried it once and am still annoyed that I can't have copies of my downloaded music in the mp3 format. So if anyone out there knows a site where you can download music in any format that Windows Media Player will support, I'd appreciate it!

www.napster.com
after you pay for each song, burn it to a DISK, then re-rip it to your pc as a STANDARD MP3, not WMA using Windows Media Player, and this way you can always have a digital version on your pc.

Have you tried a simple remedy? Right Click on the I-tune song and a scroll down menu appears. Choose 'open with', then choose
'browse' -choose the Windows Media Icon, then put a check in the box that says 'always open these files with'. Their icons should all be changed to the Windows Media Icons now.

For _legal_ mp3 downloads, try eMusic (see http://emusic.cdetc.com/ )
Their mp3s ARE iPod compatible (_unlike_ those of many other online music subscription vendors').
The files EMusic provides are standard MP3 files, free of any copy protection.
You can copy them to any computer or MP3 player, burn them to any CD and back them up without fear of losing any kind of authorization key.
What I like most about them:
- their selection is exceptional. Being a music junkie for 20+ years, I've never before came across such a complicated source of recorded music.
- you can listen to 30 sec sound clips of all the songs.
- they're offering 25 full mp3 music downloads to anybody.
- EMusic has a very active message board. I understand it is a nice community to be part of.
So, given these 25 mp3 for free trial, you could download at least a couple of albums for free.
In a word, I've been using them as my main source of sound clips - they proved numerous times to be one of the greatest sources for music I was unable to find ANYWHERE else.
As for pricing - they offer three low priced subscription plans:
Basic:
* 30 Song Downloads per month
* $9.99 per month
Plus:
* 50 Song Downloads per month
* $14.99 per month
Premium:
* 75 Song Downloads per month
* $19.99 per month
