Well if you pass a value judgement and are punished for it, then you were punished for those things. So how that extrapolates into the spiritual realm depends on your belief but it seems like a simple concept. I guess in this context Jesus was the ultimate role model, and this wasnt inline with the authorities, so he died for those beliefs... of which he adhered too as a witness for others to lead. You can intepret the langauge anyway you like as its so darn old, langauges have evolved to allow better communication - part of the problem of people who adhere strictly to old writtings, its mostly guesswork.

John 3:16 - I geuss this verse explains youe que. But read Hebrews 9:22 - ......without the shedding of the blood there is no forgiveness of sins and 10:4 which says its impossible for the blood of goats and bulls which was anciently being used for sin atonement to take away sins. So the only alternative blood shed is Jesus' to purify and cleanse us. Read hebrews 9:11-14.

The Apostle Paul said "While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."
In the Old Testament, sin had to be paid by the sacrifice of a spotless lamb.
Jesus was sent to earth by God through a miraculous virgin birth, and never sinned, which allowed Him to be the 'Spotless Lamb' to be sacrified for our sins as that payment.
However, just because Jesus did this, does not automatically provide salvation for ALL!
One must ask Jesus to forgive one's sins, and become their Savior and Lord, and He will!
Then they will have salvation. Final Answer!

When God created the heavens and the earth , and animals . God made man in his image to serve him and be caretakers of the garden of Eden . God gave man a " Free will ". God told Adam and Eve to eat any thing from the garden Except from the tree of knowledge of good and evil or you will die ( Spiritually and physically ). Satan ( A two winged cherub who wants to over throw God ) made himself a serpent and deceived Eve to eat the fruit of the tree ,she gave to Adam to eat also . That was disobedient and the first sin committed against God .We are separated from God .As a result of their sin God cursed the world with sin. Basically saying here you sinned , live with it . This is why we are all born with sin . That is why we have sickness ,diseases , getting old , death , severe weather, etc . Satan is encouraging the human soul to be evil and disobedient , he wants your soul . God having infinite mercy , emptied himself of his glory and came to earth as a human which was Jesus . Jesus preached the gospel ( Good News ) for three years . When Jesus was 33 he was accused of comparing himself to God. He was whipped over 30 x with a metal tipped whip ,had his beard plucked out , hit , spit upon ,a crown of thorns pushed on his head . Then was crucified on the cross , hanged by the nails in his hands and feet ,shed his precious blood and died on the cross . Then three days later raised from the grave for our justification. His blood made the payment for sin for thoes who choose to believe so they don't have to go to hell.Every one on this earth who doesn't trust and believe in Jesus as their savior is destine to be Judged by God for their sins ( They will be many ) against Gods law . they will found guilty and be sent to Hell a eternal lake of fire to be tormented and suffer for eternity ( forever ) The people who trust and believe in Jesus as their savior will spend eternity in paradise in heaven with God . Please get a King James version of the bible ,If you can . And read it . . Start in the new testament . Or listen on a radio try to get " Family Radio ". John 3:16 " For God so loved the world , that he gave his only begotten Son , that whosoever believeth in him should not perish , but have everlasting life".
