I have an active desktop recovery problem...?

My desktop has an active Desktop Recovery Error message. When I right click and go to properties, my whole system freezes up and I have to use ctl+alt+delete to get out. As a result, I can't repair my active desktop recovery issue. I ran spybot and deleted a few things. My Mcafee Scan runs everyday automatically and has not turned up anything. I tried a system restore and that did not work either. My whole system has been running slower lately. Any other suggestions?

    Yea get rid of McAfee

    get AVG FREE ...

It sounds like to me, that some spyware/viruses disabled some registry settings that allow you to restore active desktop...

    Try this...

    Click START

    Click RUN

Type in "regedit" (without the parentheses)

    Once this window opens up...

Youll want to click the + by

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER

    Then go to SOFTWARE

    then go to MICROSOFT

    then go to WINDOWS

    then go to CURRENT VERSION

then go to Policies, and click it, look in the right hand side, see if you see any hidden items, or items that say NO ACTIVE DESKTOP, or DO NOT ALLOW WALLPAPER change... Items that look like that...

Dont delete anything if it looks like you shouldnt, but if you see something obvious like "No changing wallpaper" thats usually obvious that something changed that.

    Do the same thing for

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

Go to another computer go here:

    http://www.download.com/3120-20_4-0.html?tg=dl-20&...

    Download the first link:

    Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0.2.614

    and the third link:

    Kaspersky Anti-Virus Definition Complete Update

to the desktop. Burn those executible files to a CD or on a flash drive.

Restart the comptuer and when it starts up press F8. Once in the advance menu options choose Start in Safe Mode.

Install the Kaspersky program. Once it is installed update it with the other file you downloaded. Then run the program and go to lunch. Once the scan is finished Delete all found infected files.

I know you already scanned with McAfee, but trust me that usally don't get all of them.

I just fixed the exact problem you described. That PC had 32 Vundo Trojans and 40 assorted spyware infections. Try AVG and try "Avast cleaner" Also, download "Vundo Remover" and run it. These infections were caused by Kazaa, Bearshare and downloads of online spyware removers such as Spyware Nuker, Spyware Sheriff etc. Good Luck!

Get CCleaner. Its free and it will delete a lot of things which are uselessly hanging around on your PC. Just run it, it will take couple of minutes and then you can delete everything that you deem unnecessary.
