Unless you know someone that will repair that LandRover free of charge, I would avoid it.
If I were you, I would get either a Honda CRV or a Toyota RAV4. They are going to be the most reliable vehicles. And the vehicle isn't any good to you if it isn't running

With your budget, you should be able to find a great small SUV.
Look for a Honda CRV, Hyundai Santa Fe or Tucson. If it were me, I would look for a one owner, well maintained, Honda CRV.
