Questions about my Canary...?

I have an Agatha Canary.. All of a sudden he stopped singing , its been about a week.He is eating and jumping around like normal, he´s just not singing.. We bought him in December and he was a few months old...

Is that normal during the summer time? or should i take him to the vet..?? ..

Thanks for the advice !

Hello - your bird is off schedule, is all. Most canaries are born in Feb and March. So he is taking a break until fall to attract a mate when he will sing again.

My babies were born in March and will begin to sing in the fall for the first time. I play them a canary cd so they will know what to do then. Do Not waste your money on a vet. They know nothing about birds, unless they are Certified Avian vets and even those mostly only know parrots.

Give your boy dark green food, like Romaine lettuce. Maybe buy him a cd.

He is okay so do not worry!

More than likely your male canary is beginning his molting season. Often the males quit singing during this time. Offer him cucumber and hard-boiled egg, shell and all, each day. He needs to exchange every one of his 2,000 feathers. He will start singing again once his molt is finished. Molts can last up to 2 to 3 months. Be sure to offer good seed and pellet diet too. Nutrition is very important during this time, as is 12 hours each evening of undisturbed rest.

This is normal. The weather is hotter and they naturally have a molting season and this is it.

If he is eating and hopping around his cage he is fine, no need to worry.

There is a special seed you can get at the pet store to help aid in the molting process AND a special song food.

Make sure you give him diced or shredded fruits and veggies as well.

    Best of luck.

let it go. It will die for sure by being attacked by other wild birds. Not an answer I know but if it don't sing you can get some enjoyment this way.

If you're really not sure what's going on, then you must take him to the vet.
