How to share files on network?

Ok, here is the deal. I have a Dell laptop running Vista, also it's wireless. I also have a Dell desktop running on XP Home. I have set them up through a wireless router, both work on the internet fine. I have set them to the same workgroup. I have also disabled windows firewall on both computers so that I can find a way to share the printer and files (music, videos, text). But nothing is working, neither computer is seeing the other one. I have no clue what to do next and I've been combing these ANSWER forums for hours. If anyone has any ideas, I would love some help. Thanks and I hope you all have a geat day.

On Vista, you have to turn on File and Printer Sharing. Under the network or whatever they call it in Vista it should be a yellow bar that says turn on file and printer sharing. Then in Windows XP, go into Network and Internet connections and set the computer up with file and printer sharing turned ON. Right click on any folder you want to share, and click Sharing and Security.

Easy to set permission levels on the file sharing but the printer sharing will depend on if there is a driver available for vista or not...

Check out these 2 articles on how to share file/folder and printer, pretty easy and no additional software installed:
