  • How should I discipline my son?

My son is not doing his class work in school. I have gotten several notes home from his teacher and I've gotten a few phone calls too. He refuses to do his work sometimes when he gets upset about something and clams up and won't talk to the teacher when spoken to. I have taken things away, I have grounded him, and I've tried reasoning with him to make him understand that what he is doing isn't helping anybody. He is very smart, all of his teachers have said that so I know he can do the work, he just doesn't want to. I'm not a fan of spanking but I feel like I have no choice, I've tried everything else. He's just so stubborn! I need advice from parents who have dealt with this kind of child. Is it a maturity thing? A stubborn thing? And how do I fix this?!?!? Help me please! I am at my wit's end and looking for any solution at this point. Thanks for your time and have a great day.

  • What to do when hubby forgets your birthday?

My husband and I have been together for almost 15 years and married for a little over 13 years. He works thrid shift (10:30pm-7am) and is now in bed so he can go to work tonight. Today was my birthday and he never said one word about it. Not a happy birthday, not a "Hey I know I'm working tonight, but we'll go out and celebrate this weekend", not anything. It was a normal regular day to him. I don't feel I should have to remind him what today is. It's not like we just met last week and I certainly haven't changed the day just to screw with him. So what do I do? I'm upset but I feel like if I tell him now he's gonna say that I set him by not reminding him or that I am being a martyr now for being upset after not reminding him. I am half tempted just to not ever say anything at all. So I need some help please. Every other year I have brought it up a couple of weeks in advance in a kinda "I'm not sure where I wanna go to dinner on my birthday" or something like that. But I just felt this time that we have been together so long that he should know this by now. Am I wrong?

  • Do you birthmothers out there still grieve like this?

I gave my first born up for adoption 14 yrs ago and I still find that I am very sad every year on her birthday. Christmas, Mother's day, any family holiday always seems a little empty to me. When I watch my younger kids play the picture never seems complete, I think about her all the time. I still cry about it from time to time. I loved her with all my heart and it killed me to give her up. I know I did what was best for her, of that I am certain, but my heart still breaks for her.

Something else, I worry about when she turns 18. I know myself well enough to know that every time the phone rings or there is a knock at the door I'm gonna wonder if its her and then be dissappointed when its not. I just can't imagine how much that roller coaster is gonna hurt me. How do you guys handle that? I know you're gonna say that I should look for her but on the one hand I feel like I made a choice that completely changed the course of her life and I should let her make this one. But I fear lying on my deathbed, knowing that I'm dying and I never saw her again.

I don't know any other birthmothers and I always wonder if I'm being silly or a drama queen or something. No one in my family talks about her and I feel so alone sometimes in this, it would be nice to hear from some people (birthfathers included) who understand.

I know I just kinda poured my heart out here, sorry, lol.

  • Buying/selling stock, how does this affect taxes?

Ok, my hubby and I put 100 bucks into an etrade account. We aren't looking to get rich anytime soon, but thought we could take advantage of some good deals should they arise. I've been playing with a stock simulator and have learned alot. But my question is this, how does buying and selling stocks affect a person's taxes? Do I incur taxes simply by owning the stock or when I sell it? If I don't make a profit off the sale, do I still pay taxes? Will etrade send me a tax document at the beginning of the year like a w-2 comes from my employer? Any help would be great!! Thanks guys!

  • New to Investing..want to learn more...?

My husband and I have never bought or traded stock before, let me say that up front. Also, I know little to nothing about how it works. However, my husband has been watching the way the markets have been going lately and wants to buy some stock now and see what happens. We dont know what to invest in, or what online investing place to go with. He does have a 401k, but I don't know if I can play with that at all...can you? I just don't know anything about investing, so feel free to talk to me like I'm an idiot here. I'm seeking any and all advice, and I will award 10 points. I won't leave it up to voting. Thanks for all your help!

  • How to get rid of XLG Privacy Control Center?

    Hello,

I am currently writing this from my laptop which is running on Vista Ultimate. My problem is with my desktop which is runnin on XP SP2. The problem is that every time that computer is started a german sounding woman speaks about how my computer is infected somehow and I need to download the antispyware program that the pop up is advertising. The popup says that there are several threats to my computer and to fix it I should buy the full version on their software. Now I know this is malware and the name of it is XLG Privacy Control Center. But the bigger problem is that I can't do anything with the computer, nothing. I can't click out of the popup, the desktop icons won't appear, the start bar won't appear. All I see is the pop up window advertising this disgusting blackmail and my wallpaper. Any suggestions? I would download anti spyware to the desktop, but I can't get past the pop up.

Thanks in advance for your time and effort and any help is welcome. Have a good one!

  • What if the insurance company claims you are at fault but the police report says otherwise?

I was in a car accident in which I went through an intersection with a green light and was t-boned by another car. She of course is saying she had the green but the police report states her as at fault. My insurance has decided I am not at fault, but her's says I am. What happens now?

  • How do I find out what boat my grandfather was on in WW II?

My husband and I both had grandfathers in the U.S. Navy, specifically, in the Pacific fleet. We were talking the other day and thought how cool it would be if they had served on the same boat. I'm an amateur genealogist trying to find this out and I'm running into brick walls everywhere. Is there any help that anyone could give me?

  • How to share files on network?

Ok, here is the deal. I have a Dell laptop running Vista, also it's wireless. I also have a Dell desktop running on XP Home. I have set them up through a wireless router, both work on the internet fine. I have set them to the same workgroup. I have also disabled windows firewall on both computers so that I can find a way to share the printer and files (music, videos, text). But nothing is working, neither computer is seeing the other one. I have no clue what to do next and I've been combing these ANSWER forums for hours. If anyone has any ideas, I would love some help. Thanks and I hope you all have a geat day.
