Who is the character in the movie 1776 with the familiar-sounding voice?

A character named Thompson or Townsend who plays the role of the man who reads the announcements to the Congress sounds really familiar to me, but I can't figure out how I know that voice. I think the actor is Ralston Hill, but I'm not sure. The credits got cut off.

Ralston Hill played Congressional Secretary Charles Thomson. He's got no other film or TV credits that I can find, although there's a bit of live theatre:

NO STRINGS, 1776, THE DESERT SONG, WEST SIDE STORY, and GYPSY ELSEWHERE.

New York credits include WOMAN OF THE YEAR, VALMOUTH!, THE BEGGAR'S OPERA, CAROUSEL, AND COLLETTE COLLAGE.

Toured in THE FANTASTICK'S with Robert Goulet, and in Japan, OLIVER, THE MOST HAPPY FELLA, HMS PINAFORE, THE MIKADO, JOHN BROWN'S BODY, THE COMEDY OF ERRORS and CANDIDE.

Do you see a lot of theatre? When a voice is really familiar, consider that maybe he did advertisements you saw or heard. Maybe that will ring a bell?

I believe you're thinking of Howard Da Silva, who was known more for his voice than his appearance.

I stand corrected. Howard Da Silva played Ben Franklin.

Never saw the movie, but I think you are right. Check out this site http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0068156/
