How come when people talk about the best rapper alive, Lil' Wayne is always brought up?

I think because he just says it so much, that people who don't really know Rap/Hip Hop, jump on his bandwagon.. And your right, not alot of people know that he didnt write his lyrics, and probably still isn't, he just has someone who will keep quiet unlike Gillie. Media;radio,TV, put himon so much and build him up so the ignorant just agree with what they see, they dont listen to anything else if it isn't talking about drugs/women and cars. I don'tknow how people think Lil Wayne is better than Mos Def and Talib Kweli as well as the artist that you have listed.

Because he makes music that people don't have to think about. I don't listen to him, so maybe it's unfair for me to judge, but as far as I know, he doesn't write anything meaningful or positive for the movement or for the hip-hop culture. Nas, Jay-Z, Rakim, KRS are alive, as well as Q-Tip, Pharoahe Monch (whom I'd probably consider the best around today), Wu-Tang Clan, and a whole host of others who preach positivity, cultural/social consciousness, and intellectual awareness through their music. That's meaningful, but it's also heavy for many people to grasp when they'd prefer to just sit down and listen to some "bumpin' beats."

Lil Wayne sucks. That's all I gotta say about that. Don't know why people always say he's the best. There's a lot more better rappers out there. . . he lacks creativity and a good beat. He's about as far from the best that I can think of, but that's just my personal opinion!!!

i am 14 and i dont personally like lil wayne all like that. but i think when you ask us teenagers that we just think of our generation I know who KRS-one is but not all teens know about pioneers of hip-hop so we name who we know and like.

Because they are 12 year olds who know nothing about music because they were brought up listening to the crappy music played on the radio nowadays
