i bought a windows xp home sp2 update for my computer and only used product key one time??????????

yesterday i got a very bad virus that infected my whole system i tried to clean with antivirus but still wouldn't get them all off..so i erased my hard drive and was gonna reinstall windows but now it says my product key has been used to many times and i bought it new from wal-mart and have only used it once....what can i do instead of having to buy another??????

    Probably need to unregistered the copy you have through Microsoft.com. If you don't want to do that...

    Take the computer offline by unplugging the network cord, internet jack, etc, so it will not recognize your computer.

    OR

    Call Microsoft, unregister the computer, might cost something, not sure.

    Call Microsoft, they will issue you a new code for free. The number you are to call is listed on the screen after you enter the code and it should tell you to call a specific phone number. I found if you do it after 2am in the morning, you get a voice activated system and never have to speak to a human.
